It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing Ray Lloyd Shaw of Yorkton, SK surrounded by his family.
Ray Lloyd Shaw was born to Emily and Otto Schau on September 17, 1935. He was the ninth of thirteen children, raised in Hendon, SK.
Ray started his work career with Gertz Construction building grain elevators. He then transitioned from building elevators to becoming a grain buyer with the Sask Wheat Pool for the next 28 years. Ray chose early retirement in 1994 so he could spend more time with his family and enjoy his passions in life.
In 1966, Ray married Eileen Shinkewski in Invermay and had two children. As his children were growing up the summer started by filling up the trailer to prepare a fun filled vacation at the lake. He enjoyed spending time swimming, sitting around the campfire, most days led him to the golf course and at times pulling his children on his golf bag. As golf season ended you could always find Ray at the curling rink, dashing to the other end to throw skip rocks. You could count on Ray to make the shot, win the game and take home the trophy.
Throughout his life Ray supported the community through volunteering on the Churchbridge Fire Department and a long standing member of the Lion’s Club. He dedicated many hours to the local sports community, you’d often find him at home plate umpiring calling balls and strikes or a BIG, you’re OUT!
Ray will always be remembered for his quirky sense of humor, and his ability to make people laugh. This was an asset when he was on grandparenting duties looking after all of his grandchildren. He had a special gift for building and designing that were evident in his home improvement projects.
Ray was loved and will be deeply missed by: his wife Eileen of 58 years, daughters Cindy Graham (Jeff), Rhonda Oystrick (Lorne), grandchildren: Nolan Graham (Gabrielle), Peyton Iwanicha (Tori), Connor Graham (Hannah Tosh); Braden Oystrick and Gavin Oystrick; great grandchildren: Liam Graham; Gia, Aria and Tianna Iwanicha; as well as many nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.
