Obituary of Don Moncur

It is with deep sadness that the family of Don Moncur announce his peaceful passing on January 4th, 2024 at the age of 87. He will be lovingly remembered by his wife Dawn, his sons Robert (Donna), Dave (Connie), Chris (Sandy), 8 grandchildren, Rory, Jerad, Bryanna, Josh, Tyler, Mitchell, Kayla and Dylan and 11 great-grandchildren, Jordyn, Brooklyn, Bentley, Brinley, Sloan, Claire, Lincoln, Quinn, Emerson, Harvey and Mac.

He was predeceased by his parents David and Georgina and brother Ken.

Donald George Moncur was born in Saskatoon Saskatchewan on April 16, 1936. Don grew up and went to school in Saskatoon and area. This is where Don’s appreciation for the outdoors and nature began.

In 1958 Don moved to Yorkton, Saskatchewan where he met Dawn (Harper), who became the love of his life. They were married in 1959 and raised their family and built their lives in Yorkton.

Don had a 35-year career with CPR railroad starting as a “brakeman” and retiring as “Mine Train Foreman”.  Don always had a philosophy of giving a hard day’s work for honest days pay and those that worked with him knew that if you worked hard, he would always treat you fair.

Don was a true outdoorsman, that enjoyed camping, fishing and hunting. These passions were shared with his wife and passed on to his sons who have carried on these traditions. He was involved with the local Wildlife Federation, Ducks Unlimited and the Kiwanis Club. Don was an accomplished gunsmith and taught Hunter and Firearm safety courses. Don also had a passion for wildlife photography and using his skills as a hunter, capturing some truly unique pictures, that won several awards in local and provincial competitions.

Later in his career Don and Dawn enjoyed travelling to destinations like Mexico, Hawaii and Costa Rica.

The family would like to thank all the doctors, nurses, care aids and staff at the Yorkton and District Nursing Home for all of your compassion and excellent care.
