OHOCHINSKY - Mrs. Rita Ohochinsky of Yorkton, beloved wife of Nestor passed away peacefully on April 13, 2013 at the age of 72 surrounded by the love of her family. Rita Clara Ohochinsky was born January 7, 1941 at Brewer, SK - a child of August and Apolonia (nee Osicki) Burant. She grew up on the family farm. On November 8, 1958 she married Nestor Ohochinsky, and they made their home in Yorkton. Together they raised 7 children. Rita had many talents and interests. She always enjoyed reading, baking, sewing, gardening, camping, fishing, shopping for bargains, and socializing with her many family and friends. Her quick wit and willingness to see the lighter side was always evident, even during life's challenges. Rita had a generous spirit, she bestowed words of wisdom, honest feedback, and a necessary kick in the pants when it was needed. She found comfort and strength in the Lord and his teachings. Her faith never waivered, which enabled her to live courageously after a diagnosis of cancer in November 2010. Rita was predeceased by her parents Pearl and August Burant, her brothers Timothy (infancy), John, Benedict, Dominic, and David. Her life is celebrated by her husband of 54 years, Nestor; their children Dean (Gale) of Regina; Colette (Emil) Benko of Yorkton, Shauneen (Doug) McBride of Wicklow, NB, Gwendolyn (Kevin) Bryksa of Yorkton, Rhonda (Paul Robb) of Leduc AB; Richard of Yorkton, and Nicholas (Kassie) of San Jose, CA. Her presence will be missed by her grandchildren: Lindsay Ferguson, Amber Lucyk; Andrew, Scott and Steven Benko; Kane and Shelby Anderson; Kelly, Brian, and Kayla Bryksa; Abby Farley, Anita Bennett, Adam and Alden Ferleyko; and Octavia Ohochinsky; and great-grandchildren: Lily and Savannah Ferguson; Kailyn and Jordyn Benko; Brielle Anderson; Neleh and Easton Bryksa; Braden, Ainsley, Mason, and Devynn Bryksa; Max and Maggie Bennett; and Caleb Ferleyko. Rita will be lovingly remembered by her siblings Rose Hobb, August (Isabel) Burant, Pearl Broad, Helen (Barry) Lester, Patrick Burant, Isador (Sherri) Burant; as well as sisters-in-law Shirley Burant, Yvonne Burant, and Agnes Burant. Rita will also be missed by numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Prayers were held on Wednesday, April 17, 2013 at St. Mary's Ukrainian Catholic Church in Yorkton. The Holy Rosary was led by members of the Knights of Columbus, both Yorkton Councils. Requiem Divine Liturgy was celebrated on Thursday, April 18, 2013 at St. Mary's Ukrainian Catholic Church with Rev. Father Methodius Kushko, C.Ss.R. as the Celebrant. The responses were led by Ed Pindus, Colette Karapita and parish choir members. The cross bearer was Kevin Burant and the epistle reader was Patrick Burant. Honorary Pallbearers were Adam Ferleyko and Alden Ferleyko. The interment followed in the Garden of Crucifixion at Yorkton Memorial Gardens with Andy Benko, Scott Benko, Steven Benko, Kane Anderson, Kelly Bryksa and Brian Bryksa serving as the casket bearers. Memorials honouring Rita's life may be made to the Allan Blair Cancer Clinic or St. Mary's Church Building Fund as gifts of remembrance.
