Obituary of Helen Moskal

MOSKAL - Helen Moskal of Ituna, widow of Walter Moskal entered eternal rest on Thursday, July 11th, 2019, our Mother and Baba caught a flight bound for Heaven. Although our Angel appeared ready to leave numerous times before, God's plan ensured she would stay awhile longer. Mom was our teacher. In her latter years, she displayed enormous strength and perseverance through her health challenges. From her, we learned the meaning of contentment. Her answer to everything was "Okay" regardless of the request. The saying goes, "Everyone you meet has something valuable to teach you." Baba radiated love. She was patient and kind; and fun to be around. She poured her best into everything she did and loved everyone she met. In Mom's treasured autograph book, a friend shared this message with her. Dear Helen, It takes a life of woes and joys Of taking and of giving, Of smiles, of tears, hopes, of fears To learn that life's worth living. At a young age, Mom engraved this message on her heart and embraced life. Helen was born on April 5th, 1928, a daughter to Wasyl and Pearl (Martyniuk) Wingerak. After completing her education in Hubbard, she sought employment at the Yorkton Union Hospital as a care aide. She was gifted with compassion, gentleness, and a caring attitude, all the qualities of a great nurse. However, her intended career path was diverted when she fell in love and later married Walter Moskal on October 18th, 1948. The couple built their homestead in the File Hills district where they farmed side by side and raised their family of four. Her family was her pride and joy. She knew no boundaries when it came to being generous with her time and talents. Baba loved life and life loved her back. She had a wonderful sense of humor. Mom was the Queen of Love and Respect. These qualities were built into her DNA. She always was the peacemaker…agreeable, loving, and supportive. Eventually, the couple moved from the farm into their new home in Ituna. When Walter passed away in 2010, shortly thereafter, Helen moved into St. Anne's Care Home. When she required additional care, she settled into the Ituna Pioneer Lodge. Mom was blessed with exceptional care from her new-found family of caregivers until the time of passing. Helen will be sadly missed and her memory will be cherished by her son Ladmer (Delores, Justin/Kim, Layla and Liam) and her daughter, Phyllis (Myroslaw, Tamara/Jonny); daughter-in-law Linda (Michael and Robert); grandchildren Kristie Anne (Terri, Nixon and Vienna), and Ryan (Emma). Helen was predeceased by her parents, Wasyl and Pearl; her husband, Walter; children, Ann (in infancy), Morris, and Patricia; son-in-law, Joe; great grandson, Matthew; and her siblings, Olga, Mary, Katherine, Rosie, Walter, Leon, and Jim. Prayers were held on Wednesday, July 17, 2019 and the Funeral Liturgy on Thursday, July 18, 2019 at Sacred Heart Ukrainian Catholic Church in Ituna celebrated by Rev. Father Basil Malowany and Most Rev. Bishop Michael Wiwchar. The cross bearer was Clarence Shul and the epistle reader was Kristie Anne Mah. The interment took place at Sacred Heart Parish Cemetery with Tamara Kowal, Justin Kowalchuk, Kristie Anne Mah, Terri Mah, Myroslaw Kowal and Calvin Wingerak serving as the casket bearers. Memorials in Helen's name may be made to Liturgy Offerings, Sacred Heart Parish Cemetery Fund or Ituna Pioneer Lodge Recreation Fund as gifts of remembrance.
