Obituary of Pauline Page

Pauline Ellashuk was born August 15, 1931 on the family farm near Wroxton Saskatchewan, the first child of Nicholas George and Helen (nee Wintonyk) Ellaschuk. Pauline was predeceased by brothers Peter Ellaschuk, infant Marislow Ellaschuk, and sister Elizabeth Helen Ellaschuk and husbands Jonathan Day Page and John Perkins. Pauline attended Chaucer school and all throughout her schooling she took pride in her studies and marks. Pauline enjoyed music and sports (particularly softball), played the mandolin and sang. Farm life for a firstborn child came with responsibilities which Pauline carried throughout her life, always having the health and well being of her family and others in the forefront of her thoughts and actions. Pauline revered nature and all living creatures. Often as a youth, wounded animals such as an owl and rabbit found themselves in her care, until their bones were healed, strength was regained and they could return to the wild. After High School, Pauline moved to Regina where she attended Nursing School at the Regina General Hospital and graduated as a Registered Nurse in 1956. Here, Pauline met and married Jonathan (Jack) Page and gave birth to Joanne Elizabeth Page and David Michael Page. Pauline started her nursing career in the midst of the "Asian Flu" pandemic and quickly trained in infectious disease control. Juggling family and career she gained experience in Medical and Surgical Nursing, Emergency, Psychiatry, Long Term Care, and Labor and Delivery and Postpartum care, in Regina and Moose Jaw Saskatchewan. In 1981 Pauline followed her dream to work in the sophisticated hospitals of Southern California. She was among the first nurses recruited to help AIDS patients during the early years of the epidemic often assisting patients in their homes due to the stigma of the disease. Later, Pauline obtained certification in NeoNatal Intensive Care, Cardiac, and Critical Care, Pediatrics, Oncology, and Geriatrics. Pauline worked in hospitals such as UCLA and Loma Linda and it was in California that she married John Perkins. Together they enjoyed travelling throughout California, Nevada, Hawaii and Mexico and tending to their beautiful garden at their home in Hemet, CA. In her retirement, Pauline returned home to Saskatchewan to be closer to her family and the prairies that she loved. Her final few years were spent close to Jim and Joanne in Edmonton Alberta. Pauline leaves to mourn her passing, sister Victoria Maguire and her husband Douglas Maguire, daughter Joanne Shaban and husband Jim Sangster, son David Page, grandchildren Dewey Page, wife Becca and their son Greyson, Alexis Page, Robin Shaban and spouse Daniel Jensen, and Jonathan Shaban. She is survived by nieces and nephews Carol Maguire - Morris, Marilyn Maguire, Paul and Heather Maguire, Michael Maguire and Melissa Just, Great nieces and nephews Hugh Buller, Adrienne Buller, Shannon Maguire, Evelyn Maguire - Grizzle, Darby Maguire, Kirby Maguire, Carla Morris, Donnely Morris. Also mourning her loss are cousins Deloris Ellaschuk - Brooks and Jim Ellaschuk, Shirley Shore and Edwin Ellaschuk. Pauline was an independent intelligent woman with many interests and talents, who enthusiastically sang soprano in a choir no matter where she lived or how busy she was. She will be remembered for her confidence, dedication, and adventurous spirit. Most of all, she will be remembered for the love and pride that she held for her family past and present.
