The Zrymiak family sends sincere condolences to the Stevely and Leech families. We are certain your memories of Karen are great and forever lasting Karen was a classmate in Glenavon school from grades 1 through 12. Not only was she always friendly, happy and smiling, she was a great student and also a great organizer. In high school Karen chaired the school social committee for 2 years ensuring the students had many events to take part in and enjoy. Karen came from a music loving family. Even as a young girl she had great singing ability. She was the only student I knew that ever sang solo at a Christmas concert in the Glenavon hall. Attached ( in photos) is a Glenavon High School Graduation picture of Karen taken from the 1965 yearbook. Without a doubt, she will be remembered kindly by all that knew her.. Phil Zrymiak

In the words of Billy Joel, Only the Good Die Young... I was fortunate to renew a friendship with Karen when she phoned me to ask me about managing pancreatic cancer, as Terry suffered from the same illness as my Mom. We both advocated for the cause and put up our purple lights every Christmas on honour of those who lost their lives to that horrible cancer. It bonded us as well as our mutual love and respect for my Mom Jane Shoemaker and the nursing profession ;). She was a special soul who brought such wit and liveliness to those around her. Her love of music was shared with her sons who I have also been fortunate to know since my high school years in Kipling. Though Billy Joelu2019s phrase rings true for Trent and Dereku2019s parents, their spirit will live on in their families and all those who knew them.

Deepest sympathy to Karenu2019s family, Karen Lily, such a beautiful name for a beautiful friend will be sadly missed. She was resilient, brave, independent, strong, loving, funny ,fun, whether at work or play. Karen cared about and loved her family and was always so full of pride when talking about them. She was a loyal, fun loving friend. Loved and passionate about her profession and the patients she cared for. Music, Riders, animals and animal welfare, volunteering were all so important to her. She was particular, professional and passionate about the people and things she cared about. She was witty, funny, with so many one- liners and jokes, that had you laughing and life fun. She was always very generous and grateful and quick to show her appreciation. Karen was an inspiration how she lived and how she passed. Brave , strong, independent and practical. It was apparent that Karen and Terry taught their sons all of the lessons as they lovingly cared for Karen, with tremendous love, respect, compassion and courage. Forever in our hearts and circle of friends, love Kim

I first met Karen when she started working at the YRHC emergency department. It didn't take long to get to know her as a caring, compassionate nurse, who also had a knack for being able to figure things out pretty quickly. While Karen had a quick wit that often had us in gales of laughter, she also had a way of making everyone she met feel smart, funny, and valued. Kim, Iona and I were privileged to have been able to carry these relationships with Karen out of the workforce, and onto a more personal level for many years. During our visits to celebrate birthdays, other events, or for no reason at all, we shared so many life and family happenings, celebrations and concerns. Our conversations almost always turned to nursing, which she loved almost as much as she loved animals. Karen's pride in her family was always so apparent, and she would have been beaming with pride if she had been able to share with us how gently and carefully Trent and Derek cared for her during her final weeks. I imagine she is sharing that news with Terry now, as he smiles upon her, and nods. She was a kind, gentle and loving soul. We were blessed to have Karen in our lives, and will miss her tremendously now that she has passed. Sincere sympathies to Karen's family; her son's, Trent and Derek and their families, as well as to her brother, Paul and his family. Sympathies, as well, to all other family members and other friends who loved her so.

What sad news to receive on Karen's passing. She was such a unique person and I wish I would have been able to have spent more time visiting. I first saw, not met but got to see and hear Karen sing at a couple concerts that were held in the Corning Town Hall. In my school years at Corning, concerts were organized to celebrate events like St. Patrick's Day, it was called an Irish concert. Local talent got to sing, do short plays or something of the sort but that was when I first heard Karen sing. The curtain would open and she always stood on the left side of the stage, say a few words, pop sideways to a exit, put on a record of a pop song of the day, pop back out and sing two numbers. Wow, if only someone would have recorded her. I started dating a girl named Gloria and that was when I met Karen. She was the best of friends with Anne Pander, now Silversides who was an older sister of Gloria. When Gloria and I got married, at our request Karen sang Ave Marie in the church in Windthorst SK. Beautiful of course, thank you again Karen. We lived in Regina and that was where Karen was working as a nurse, she introduced us to our first family doctor, Jack Alexander who looked after my family until he retired. He birthed all three of our children and our first grandson who's middle name was named after Jack. Another big thank you again Karen. Her life journey took her away from Regina but later returned when Terry was working at the RCMP Depot. They lived only a few blocks from us and Terry coached our ball team for young teens. Terry was a super coach and I remeber Trent offering support to my daughter on the team, thanks Trent. Its the little things in life that can mean so much. At that time Karen got convinced to enter a singing competion held at a bar at the East end of Victoria Street. We all went and she sang Delta Dawn, did not win but still did a super job. The last time Gloria and I saw Karen and Terry was at Anne and Doug Silversides's 50 th Wedding Anniversary held in Glenavon SK. At the dinner Karen got up and sang a song using her own lyrics to some bouncy tune and it was so good. The lyrics made people laugh. Gloria and I are very sorry for your loss Paul, Trent, Derrek and famalies. We all enter this world with a round trip ticket but why so many are called to use the return stub away too soon, I'll never know. Trent, Derrek, you are brothers, hang on to that bond, family is all that really matters in this world. Our sincere sympathy, Rob and Gloia Doucette

I feel blessed to have met her last year. She was given my number because she heard from someone that knew that I walked dogs . So after , when she was healing from her surgery, I got to meet her beautiful Rosie, and take her for walks. I felt honored to meet such a beautiful person too, who was so caring and loving. One night , when I was gonna walk Rosie,I realized that I had forgotten my mitts; rather than me trying to suck it up , she passed me her mitts to have . Whenever it's a cold day or night, I have always worn those mitts , and always think of her whenever I do so . I will never forget all the warmth she provided. I honestly do believe that people walk into our lives for a reason, and so this beautiful angel will never be forgotten. My heart hurts, knowing that she's gone , but I know that she's near us and looking after our well being, as we always knew she had and has!

Paul, Trent, Derek and family, It has been with a heavy heart to learn of Karen's illness and passing. All were in my prayers daily . Singing with Karen and Paul when we were growing up was so much fun. Karen's interpretation of the Lord's Prayer was beautiful. Connecting again when Terry and Karen moved to Yorkton was great. Karen and I had a great time when she came to Calgary to attend the musical about the Gander hospitality during 9/11. I will miss visiting with her when I can again travel to Sask and Yorton to visit with family. Blessings Audrey

I worked with Karen in ER, if you were ill and had Karen as your nurse, you would have thought..'Something is going right in this bad day'. She was a hustle, bustle nurse and worked so hard for her patients. But should music come on, there would be a more lively step in her pace. ER parties were so much fun when Karen and Terry would do a monologue that worked so humorously with two people! Her joy was her marriage, her boys and the family they created with an undertone of music . Blessings to all.
