Obituary of John Thomas Louis "Johnny" Duffy

John Thomas Louis Duffy as a young child he was adventurous and athletic. He didn't walk he ran. John was a mischievous and love to laugh, but he could be stubborn and wilful but never mean. Always a kind person he loved to help people. He was a volunteer for the big bike race for Heart and Stroke, and a torch runner for Special Olympics, Terry Fox Run and Kids Sports Camp. He was an ongoing volunteer for the blood bank and many other organizations. His first love was sports. In elementary school he was a track and field guy. He went to the Western Canada games in Winnipeg and competed in 13 metals. In his late teens and early 20's he became an excellent swimmer as well and won over 200 metals in Special Olympics. When he was in his late 20's and early 30's he moved into team sports. Basketball, baseball and curling became the events he participated in until his memory issues became part of the problems of playing. He loved the Maple Leafs, Raptors and Alouettes. He went to many games and was a proud fan for all. The other love of his life was dancing. He could dance waltz, jazz, rock ‘n' roll and line dance. He was always up for a party a true Irishman. Other than sports and dance John was a family guy who loved his sister and his dad and his nephews Darien and Brayden. When Darien brought Sam and Charlie into his life he became a great uncle to Charlie and he was proud of that. When his niece Tallia came into his life four years ago his mind was almost gone. She was the light of his life the last two years two years -- Tallia could always bring a smile to his face. If his mind had still been there, she would have been the love of his life. John lived a life of kindness, love and giving. Remarkably, he outlived all of his doctor's expectations. The high-fives are all his.
