Obituary of Gary Nagy

The family of Gary Nagy of Rhein, husband of Cheryl Nagy, sadly announce his passing on January 10, 2025. He was 66 years of age.

A gathering will be held at a later date.

Gary entered the world on April 12,1958. He was born in Yorkton to Elmer and Margret Nagy (Loschuk). Gary attended school in Yorkton and enjoyed playing and excelled in many sports, whether it be Slo-pitch, football, shinny or broom ball.

 

As young adult, one of Gary’s first jobs was delivering papers for the Leader Post. He then had a short tenor with the City of Yorkton cutting grass and being a groundskeeper for Deer Park. In the winter he worked at the Yorkton Curling Club as the ice maker. His one highlight was being asked to help make ice in Regina for a tournament called the Silver Broom.

 

In 1979, Gary married the love of his life Cheryl Peterson. In 1982, Cheryl and Gary were blessed with a son Aaron Russell Mackenzie.  In 1985 the family grew again with the birth of another son Brett Louis Vaughn.

 

Gary continued to work as an ice maker then eventually got a job as security at the Parkland Agriplex and Imperial 400. He covered many events; some notable highlights were of meeting and hanging out with Andre the Giant as well as Johnny Cash. He then landed a job with Purolator where he stayed until he retired.

 

Gary’s favorite thing to do was to spend time with his family playing cards, fishing and laughing. Gary also had a love for the Montreal Canadiens and Saskatchewan Roughriders. He was to many Rider games with his son Aaron.  His son Brett took him to Vancouver for a father son trip where Gary and Brett seen the Canucks take on the Canadiens. Brett enjoyed Vancouver and Gary Montreal.  Great memories were made.

 

 Gary loved adventures with the family and it led them to some fun trips to Minot, Los Angeles to go to the Price is Right and Las Vegas.  To any one who knew Gary could contest he made a difference in their world. He was one of the most kind, caring and affectionate person you would meet. He had many friends wherever he went. 

 

Gary is predeceased by his mother Margret, father Elmer, and his sister Cheryl.

 

Gary is survived by his wife Cheryl (Peterson), sons Aaron and Brett (Brittany), grandchildren Brynlee, Ethan and Owen and canine pal Lewis.
