As Katie's older sister by four years, I have many memories to cherish from our early years growing up together as children and then our double wedding as young adults. Paul and I moved to Sudbury but we were able to visit our family in Saskatchewan, usually every summer. My girls enjoyed visiting the boys and still talk about Auntie Katie's homemade root beer and home baking. They did not enjoy shelling the peas but sure enjoyed eating them. We all had fun getting together with the whole Spilchen family at Good Spirit Lake sharing fun and food. After Paul passed away,I was able to keep in touch with Katie over the phone, doing our daily readings from our prayer books. I was lucky enough to make one last visit to Katie at her home in Yorkton by myself before she moved to the home in Canora. I missed our daily phone calls as she became unable to communicate. I miss her now and think about her often. I am grateful to have an extra special memory: I was seven years old and coming home from school and there was Katie running to greet me - we were so happy to see each other. I was lucky to have a sister like Katie for such a long time. Along with my girls, I send our love to you and your families. Auntie Mary.

In life, Kay was never one to rest, and definitely never one to rest peacefully; not when there were tasks to be done and things to be tended. I pray that she is now able to take that rest that she so deserves.
You were a force of nature, Grandma. May your spirit find a garden in heaven.

We visited with Aunt Katie in 2015. Here is picture of Terry (Peter’s son) and 2 of his children - Cody and Krystyna with Aunt Katie. She showed us her fantastic gardens, sauerkraut operation and fed us a fantastic breakfast. Our condolences to the whole family.
