Donna Lischynski

Obituary of Donna Lischynski

Donna Lischynski (née Huziak) was called to her heavenly home peacefully at the age of 85 on December 29, 2024, in Yorkton, SK. Donna was born on September 10, 1939, in Wroxton, SK to Steve and Anne Huziak (née Filewich). She is survived and missed by her husband of 64 years, Ed Lischynski, five children and their spouses, thirteen grandchildren, two great grandchildren, and two sisters:

Her daughter Celeste Bernakevitch (Kelly) and their children Brett, Tyler (Brooke), and Rae (boyfriend Shawn); and Tyler and Brooke’s children Vera and Gemma

Her son Darrell Lischynski (Monique) and their children Anna, Madeline, Rebecca, and Emily

Her daughter Lynn James (Steve) and their children Paige (boyfriend Jordan) and Dallas

Her daughter Denise von Doellen (Eric) and her children Devin and Samantha (boyfriend Jordan)

Her son Kimball Lischynski (Kendra) and their children Julia and Nathan

Her sisters Marion Huziak and Iris Kuzina

Donna and Ed owned and lived on a grain and cattle farm southeast of Dunleath, SK. This life required tireless hard work and dedication, and their children’s participation ensured these values were passed on. Donna and Ed saw to it that all five children received university education, and they treasured seeing the life successes of all their children and grandchildren.

Donna took tremendous pride in her vegetable and flower gardens, both on the farm and at their Yorkton house later in life, and her family delighted in the fruits of these labours. She was a meticulous seamstress, and her sewing machine could barely keep up with her passion for mending, patching, and making quilts, curtains, embroidery, everyday dresses for her daughters, outfits for grandchildren, and dresses for weddings. She loved being out on the water fishing, and also enjoyed dancing, playing cards, and supporting the Saskatchewan Roughriders. In their retirement, Donna and Ed spent RV time in Texas, took major trips to Yellowknife, Newfoundland, Alaska, and the Holy Land, and frequently visited their family across four provinces.

Donna lived a life of devotion to her faith and family. She was a longtime parishioner of St. Mary’s Ukrainian Catholic Church in Yorkton and an active member of its Ukrainian Catholic Women’s League. Her most cherished moments were having her house full and her family all around her. Family gatherings for Christmases and milestone birthdays and anniversaries were always joyous celebrations of Donna and Ed’s lives. Donna will be missed for her warmth, generosity, sense of humour, and kindness.

The Funeral Service was held on Wednesday, January 8, 2025 at St. Mary’s Ukrainian Catholic Church in Yorkton with Very Rev. André Lalach officiating. The responses were led by Laurie Fedorowich and St. Mary's English Choir. The Rosary led by members of the UCWL preceded the Funeral Service. The cross bearer was Emily Lischynski and the altar server was Nathan Lischynski. The epistle was led by Lynn James. Members of the UCWL served in the Honor Guard. The eulogist was presented by Denise von Doellen. The interment followed in the Garden of St. Luke at Yorkton Memorial Gardens with Darrell Lischynski, Kimball Lischynski, Kelly Bernakevitch, Brett Bernakevitch, Tyler Bernakevitch and Dallas James serving as the casket bearers.
