Obituary of Mabel Koochin Zawada
With sad hearts, the family of Mabel Zawada (nee Koochin, Zeeben) announce her passing at Sunset Nursing Home, Regina Sk. on November 7,2024 at the age of 97.
Mabel was born on July 21,1927 on a farm south of Amsterdam Sk. to George and Mary (nee Bonderoff) Zeeben. She attended the Dunay School for her elementary years and later attended high school in Canora Sk. from where she graduated in 1946. She started her working career at the Hugh Wadel Memorial Hospital in Canora and in 1947 joined Saskatchewan Telephones in Canora and then Kamsack and later went on to become a nurse’s aide.
On May 14,1949 she married William (Bill) Koochin. They had four children: Janet, Candace, Judy and Ken. Bill passed away on September 18,1959.
Mabel moved to Yorkton in 1973 and worked at the Yorkton Union Hospital until her retirement in 1988. In 1977 Mabel married Mike Zawada. They were married for over 34 years before Mikes passing in 2011. Mabel moved to Regina in October 2021 to be closer to her family.
Mabel was predeceased by her parents, George and Mary Zeeben; husbands, Bill Koochin and Mike Zawada; sisters, Mary Kirkpatrick, Polly Siminoff and Lucille Zeeben; sisters-in-law Annette Zeeben and Ruth Zeeben; brothers-in-law Nick Siminoff and Sam Kirkpatrick; son-in-law Tom Ritchie; nephew Larry Siminoff.
Her family was the most important thing to her. She will be dearly missed by them. Children, Janet (Gary Gibson), Candace, Judy (Larry Ellis) and Ken (Cheryl). Six grandchildren, Curtis, Nicole (Bill), Jamie (Billie), Paul (Monique), Tanya (Jared) and Traci (Tyler), ten great grandchildren, six great great grandchildren and brothers Mike and John Zeeben.
A Celebration of Life service will be announced at a later date.
