Delores Haczkewicz

Obituary of Delores Haczkewicz

The family of Delores Haczkewicz is saddened to announce her passing on October 19, 2024, at the age of 75 years.  Delores was a caring mother, grandmother, sister and friend.  She always went out of her way to ensure that those around her well looked after and supported.

Delores was born to Stanley and Bernice Haczkewicz on January 16, 1949, in Canora, Saskatchewan.  She was the 5th of the 8 children that her parents would be blessed with.

She was a woman of incredible strength and determination.  After giving birth to her son Michael, she finished high school and worked at the Pioneer Lodge in Hudson Bay while saving money to move to Regina to make the best life possible for her and her boy.  In 1974 she found her way to Regina and took classes at Reliance Business College with her sister Debbie.  The two of them shared an apartment and in the summer of 1975 her employment ship came in.  She landed a job with the Provincial Government at the Land Titles Office in Prince Albert.  Her career with Land Titles led her to Yorkton two years later and would span 27 years.  She retired in 2002 and remained in Yorkton until her passing.

Delores loved to be around people.  She busied herself with curling in the winter and golf in the summer.  She loved to read and constantly had the latest Harlequin Romance novel on her nightstand.  Delores was an incredible cross stitcher, crocheter, and quilter.  Like all Saskatchewanians she was an avid fan of the Roughriders, and she truly adored Bobby Orr and the Boston Bruins much to her son’s chagrin.

With the arrival of her twin granddaughters in 1999 and grandson in 2002 her focus became being the best grandmother on the planet.  Never once did she turn down an opportunity to babysit the kids or the dog, Domino, who would arrive on the scene a short time later.  She could be found cheering at hockey games, track meets, football games, cross country and swim meets.  As the grandkids activities became even more diverse and widespread, she was called on even more, to drive to practices and games, make lunches, host sleepovers, suppers and more.  Never once did she utter even the closest thing to a sigh.  Grandparenting was her calling, and she excelled at it.

Her constant need to be near people led to her retirement gig at Walmart where she worked in the grocery section.  While at work she could be seen chatting with pretty much anyone that came her way.  Truth be told, she had more chats with customers than the Walmart greeter himself.

Delores’ desire to be surrounded by friends followed her to her Long-Term Care Facility in Yorkton where she could always be seen with residents and staff nearby.

While she may have left us far too soon, the victim of a terrible heartless disease, the time that she got to spend with us was lived to the fullest.  Many memories have been made and will live long after her in our hearts.

Delores is survived by her son Michael (Michele), her grand daughters Jennifer (Donovan Buskey), Kelsey and her husband Brody Lutz, and Grandson Joshua (Autumn Chomos), along with her sister Terry (Errol) Haczkewicz-Ring.

She is predeceased by her parents Stanley and Bernice Haczkewicz. Her siblings Isabel Casement, Joseph Haczkewicz, Florence Bergen, Wanda Burbeck, Anthony Haczkewicz, Debbie Haczkewicz, her niece Heather Maitland (nee Casement), and her grand-niece Karrington Ross.

Friends so wishing can leave a donation in her memory with the Alzheimer's Society of Saskatchewan.
