Obituary of Joyce Brennan
Joyce Caroline Brennan (nee DeLaittre) was born February 22, 1946 and passed away peacefully on September 18, 2024 at the Yorkton Regional Health Centre at the age of 78 years.
Joyce was born at the Kamsack Hospital to Danel and Cassie DeLaittre (nee Krakalovich). She was the 4th of 5 children, Jane, Alice, Eileen, Joyce and Jerry. Joyce was raised in the Malonek District, north of Pelly.
On August 4th, 1962 Joyce married Wayne Brennan and they lived in Yorkton for many years. Joyce worked at the Co-op grocery store as a cashier for many many years. She then got on with Morris Rod Weeder and worked in the finance department. Wayne & Joyce got tired of city life and purchased farm land 6 miles north of Yorkton. They both worked at building a beautiful home, barn, wood working shop and other out buildings. Joyce loved gardening, especially the beautiful flower beds she maintained. Then they got into farming with cows and horses. Joyce also raised and trained Mini Horses, this was one of her greatest pride and joys. Some of the horses were for show and some to drive her cart. Her sister Jane used to help her with shows and they had matching outfits. Joyce was also President of the Saskatchewan Miniature Horse Association. Many wonderful exciting parties were held at Joyce & Waynes. Many family times and many friends and neighbours times, and sometimes we were all there together, Joyce was an exceptional hostess. When Joyce, her sisters and brother were all together, they were so happy, they were each other’s best friends.
Joyce and Wayne travelled many places, Wayne loved to drive. They had gone to Florida, Ireland, France, Spain Vegas and Arizona. Joyce also was an exceptional seamstress, because Wayne had extra long arms and broad shoulders she sewed his dress shirts, suit coats and pants as well as many of her dresses and suits. In the last couple years, Joyce has sewn cloth bags, place mats and much more, many of which she shared with her nieces and nephews. Joyce was never much of a TV watcher until a certain time of year, CURLING… she really enjoyed watching curling.
Joyce moved back into Yorkton and purchased a condo in 2018, she liked it because it had personal upgrades. The cupboards were custom built and looked very similar to what her and Wayne had built on the farm. Joyce enjoyed getting together for coffee and playing cards with the condo girls and playing Saturday night bingo with her friends.
Auntie Joyce, we miss you and love you, but we hope you are happy being with your family that your heart has been missing.
Joyce was predeceased by her father, Danel DeLaittre, mother, Cassie DeLaittre (nee Krakalovich), husband Wayne Brennan, sisters; Jane Johnson, Alice Vogel, Eileen Brennan, brother Jerry DeLaittre, brother-in-law, Conrad Vogel and sister-in-law Valerie DeLaittre.
Joyce is survived by Auntie Natalie Pikula, many cousins, nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews, as well as many friends. She was a great lady who will be missed by all.
A Special Thank You to: Mary Dorn, who was a very special friend and neighbor on the farm. Mary & Joyce did many things together, going on outings to greenhouses, grocery store trips, doctors appointments and spending countless hours with Joyce while she was in the hospital. Her niece, Rena Brennan also spent a lot of time with Joyce, helping her on the farm, then helped her at her condo in town as well as countless hours with Joyce at the hospital. Thank you both so very much!
