WALTERS - Rose Walters passed away peacefully on Sunday September 1, 2024 in Regina, Saskatchewan. She was predeceased by her parents Andy and Annie Gelmich, her brothers John and Andy Gelmich and her sisters Mary Gorchinski, Nellie Kondro, and Betty Willway. She is survived by her loving husband of 67 years, Don Walters and leaves behind her children Kevin (Barb) Walters, Jeff (Carlene and son, Carter) Walters, and Keri (Gerry) Zulyniak along with grandchild Sara Zulyniak.
Rose was born on November 4, 1937, in Yorkton, Saskatchewan and was raised on the family farm in Fitzmaurice, Saskatchewan. She attended secretary college in Yorkton. Most prominently, Rose acted as the secretary at the Composite/Yorkdale Junior High school for over 20 years, where she touched the lives of countless students and staff with her calm demeanour and kind attitude.
Rose also worked as a Justice of the Peace until she turned 65. Eventually, she obtained certification to work as a marriage commissioner; a role which she took great pride in. Rose performed several hundred ceremonies taking the time to personalize each ceremony to the couple’s liking. She extended her community involvement by volunteering for both the church and Shelwin House boards.
Rose was a devoted wife and mother and skilled cook and baker. She loved spending time at the family cabin at Good Spirit, especially snowmobiling in the winter. She was a passionate sports fan cheering for the Riders, Blue Jays, and anything curling.
In retirement, Rose traveled to many countries with Don, and they cherished their winters as snowbirds in Donna, Texas. When Don was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s, Rose faced the challenges of being his primary caregiver with unwavering strength and devotion.
Rose’s infectious spirit will forever burn on in her loved ones, who are dedicated to honouring her memory throughout their lives.
The Funeral Service was held on Saturday, September 21 from St. Paul Lutheran Church, with Margaret Anne Yost officiating. The interment followed in the Garden of St. Mark, Yorkton Memorial Gardens with Sara Zulyniak serving as the Urn Bearer. The family kindly requests that donations be made to the Yorkton Shelwin House (Box 1828, Yorkton, SK S3N 3R2) as gifts of remembrance.
