Walter Brygider

Obituary of Walter Brygider

Walter George Brygider, beloved husband of Olga, passed away on August 22, 2024, at the age of 95 at the Yorkton and District Nursing Home.

Walter was born on November 22, 1928, to Steve and Nettie Brygider, the youngest of four children. He lived at the farm in Dunleath until the family moved to Kessock in 1946, and finally to the farm at Saltcoats in 1947, until he and Olga moved to Yorkton in 2021. Dementia and poor mobility caused the need for his move to the nursing home.

During Walter’s life he mainly farmed, and worked off the farm at many jobs – government telephones, power corporation, dam building, weed inspecting, and on the oilfields. You could pick any town on the map of Saskatchewan and he knew where it was because he had either worked there or nearby. After he was done his day’s work, he would readily help his friends and neighbours who needed a hand.

In 1966, Walter went on a trip to Jamaica after corresponding with Olga for some time. In 1967, Olga came to Canada and married Walter, where they made their home on the farm.

Walter always had a love for nature, which he instilled in his kids. He loved visiting with people, and Sunday family drives. He liked reading and of course watching the news.

Walter tried his hand at many things and had numerous hobbies. He kept bees, did leather work, and welded his own equipment and his neighbors’ if needed. He worked with wood and making furniture and garden art. He could fix almost anything; I believe he was most proud of his weather vanes.

Walter leaves to mourn his passing: his wife of 57 years Olga; two daughters Andrea (Lee) and Christine (Darcy); two granddaughters; two great-granddaughters; as well as many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Walter is predeceased by his parents; and siblings Marie (Howie), Katherine (Penner), and brother John Brigidear.
