Gordon Gryschuk

Obituary of Gordon Gryschuk

The family of Gordon Gryschuk, beloved husband of Millie Gryschuk, is sad to announce his passing on August 21, 2024, at the age of 83.

For the past 5 ½ years, Gordon had multiple serious health challenges, but never lost his sense of humour. He was a fighter, and despite his physical pain and disabilities, he always had a smile for anyone who came to visit him.

As a young man, Gordon was a barber working with his dad.  A complicated fracture of his right wrist caused him to change his vocation.  He sold farm machinery for many years and enjoyed meeting the farmers.

Gordon and Millie travelled extensively, including 59 trips back to the Maritimes to visit Millie’s family. They enjoyed multiple cruises and travelled to Europe 3 times with their daughter, Lisa, and son-in-law, Steven. They also enjoyed trips to New York, Las Vegas, Alaska, Hawaii, and Seattle.

Gordon’s happy place was at the lake. He was an avid fisherman all of his life. His mother started him on this journey by taking him in the boat when he was just 8 weeks old. Fishing brought him much joy, even near the end of his life when fishing became a challenge. His favourite fishing trip was a 3 day guided salmon trip in Campbell River with his son-in-law, Steven. The joy on his face when he caught the ‘big’ one is unforgettable. Similarly, his love for certain simple things, pepsi, pie, cabbage rolls and sausage was undeniable

The Gryschuk home sheltered many pets over the years and Gordon was responsible for bringing most of them into the family. Dogs were always Gordon’s favourite and the family was never without a beloved dog.

Gordon was a dedicated member of the First Baptist Church and served several terms on the Board.

He leaves to cherish his memory, his loving wife of 62 years, Millie, his son Gary (Denise) of Saskatoon, his daughter, Lisa (Steven) of Calgary, his grandchild, Rylan Zerebeski of Calgary, his brother in-law, Gordon Hare, Fredericton NB, and two special nieces, Deb Hallet of Fredericton, and Lauretta Beliveau of Regina.

He was predeceased by his parents, Max and Julie, his brother Bob, and grandchild Kayden Zerebeski.

The Funeral Service was held on Monday, August 26, 2024 from the Yorkton Memorial Gardens Family Centre with Pastor Steve Rosluk of First Baptist Church officiating. Accompanist Karen DeLong led the congregation in the hymns ‘How Great Thou Art’, ‘In the Garden’ and ‘Amazing Grace’. Words of remembrance was shared by Lauretta Beliveau, Steven Pulvermacher and Gary Gryschuk.  The interment followed in the Garden of Gethsemane, Yorkton Memorial Gardens with Gary Gryschuk, Steven Pulvermacher, Landon Gryschuk, John Ward and Keith Hoyt serving as casket bearers.

Memorial donations may be made to First Baptist Church, Yorkton or to the SPCA as gifts of remembrance.
