Blaine Miller

Obituary of Blaine Miller

Blaine Kevin Miller was born on November 7, 1967 in Wadena, Sask. and passed away peacefully after a 19 month battle with brain cancer on Tuesday, August 13, 2024 in Yorkton, Sask.

Blaine grew up on the family farm east of Hendon and attended school in Wadena all his life with the exception of his grade 11 year which was spent at Caronport High School. He thoroughly enjoyed helping his dad farm throughout his entire life and also in the shop fixing everything from vehicles to machinery and everything in between. Blaine worked several jobs after graduating from Wadena Composite High in 1987 such as construction, power lineman, elevator maintenance, and finally ending up in Yorkton to take Pre-Employment Welding in 1993. While taking this course Blaine started working at RAM Industries and continued to work there full-time after completion where he obtained his Journeyman status 3 years later. He worked for over 20 years at RAM working his way up to the Welding Foreman, a position he held for many years. Blaine started instructing welding at the Parkland College in Melville part-time in 2006 and then worked out of the Welding Department in the Yorkton Regional High School until the Trades and Technology Centre was built in 2015 where he continued to work until he was diagnosed in January of 2023. For a number of years he worked from 6:00 a.m. till 2:30 p.m. at RAM then would instruct from 4:00 p.m. till 10:00 p.m. for the college. His welding students were more than students to him. Blaine gave 110% to every student that crossed his path. Many of them kept in touch for years after finishing their course. He was very hard working and dedicated in anything he was involved with. He was the last out of the building most days, working till late in the evening and many weekends also. Blaine also operated his own welding truck in his spare time. Many farmers and companies in the Yorkton area called on him more than once to fix whatever was needed.

In May of 1987 Blaine met the love of his life, Diane Beatty and they married on August 19, 1995. They were blessed with two daughters, Amy Jean in 1998 and Emma Jessie in 2007. They welcomed a son-in-law in August of 2023 when Amy married Kadyn Jacobs.

Blaine’s two girls were his whole world. The time he spent with them were his most memorable and fulfilling days and if you asked him, there never could have been enough of those days. He was so very proud of them and would tell them and everyone this daily. A family trip to BC, one to Mount Rushmore, trips to Alberta and many, many days spent out at the camper at Leslie Beach would make lifelong memories. The camper at the lake was where he enjoyed his down time with his family and extended family. Fishing in the boat or pulling the tube with the girls and their friends was always a fun time. When Blaine was diagnosed in early 2023, his most heartbreaking thought was how were his girls were going to be affected. He lost many a nights’ sleep worrying about them. He can rest assured that he raised strong, independent, hard working go-getters, just like him and they are going to be okay. Your work here is done Blaine, go rest easy while you watch over us all.

Blaine is survived by his wife of 29 years, Diane, daughter Amy (Kadyn) Jacobs of Ladysmith, BC, daughter, Emma; mother, Margaret of  Wadena, SK; brother, Brent of Airdrie, AB; sister Valerie Cottreau (Lee), and their children Mason, Ashlyn and Brielle of Airdrie, AB; sister Vicki (Rolf) Hirch of Rolling Hills, AB and her children Braden Wiens; Chelsea Wiens and children Braelyn and Caleb. Blaine was pre-deceased by his father Victor.
