Obituary of Donna Obrigewitsch
Donna, beloved wife of Denis, passed away on Tuesday, August 6, 2024 at the Yorkton Regional Hospital at the age of 73, after a short but valiant battle with Hodgkin’s Lymphoma.
Born on February 27, 1951 to Anton & Elizabeth Geiger in Regina, SK, Donna was the youngest of 4 children. She grew up in Regina, attending St. Paul’s Elementary School, St. John Bosco School and Miller Comprehensive High School where she met the love of her life, Denis. The two were married on April 22, 1972 and welcomed three children into the world: Jackie, Brad and Jennifer. In 1981, the family moved to Yorkton. Donna was a stay-at-home mom until all the kids were attending school, then she held various jobs which she always took pride in. In 1992 Donna was hired at SaskPower where she worked until she retired in 2011. While working at SaskPower, Donna advanced her education by taking night classes in Churchbridge for various office disciplines. In her spare time, Donna loved to cook and bake. There was usually fresh cookies, pies, buns or bread on the counter to enjoy.
Donna was predeceased by her parents, Anton and Elizabeth Geiger, brothers Ron Geiger and Claude Geiger, brother-in-law Lavern Hoffert, parents-in-law, Joseph and Eva Obrigewitsch, brother-in-law Ken Obrigewitsch.
Donna is survived by her loving husband of 52 years, Denis and their children: Jackie (Tony) Cherwenuk, Brad Obrigewitsch, Jen (Curtis) Bilan, and her cherished grandchildren: Elizabeth and Mackenzie Cherwenuk, Alexander and Nathan Mushanski, Brady-Ann and Madison Bilan. She also leaves to mourn her sister, Corinne Hoffert, sisters-in-law Evelyn Geiger and Veronica Geiger, sisters-in-law Sylvia Obrigewitsch (Sister of Sion), Charlene Obrigewitsch, Linda Obrigewitsch, brothers-in-law Charles (Kim) Obrigewitsch, Wayne Obrigewitsch, along with numerous nieces and nephews.
Thank you to the doctors and nurses in ICU and 1st East and West at the Yorkton Regional Hospital for your exceptional care of mom throughout these last few months.
The Funeral Mass was celebrated on Tuesday, August 13, 2024 from St. Gerard's Roman Catholic Church with Rev. Fr. Sathiadas Antony as Celebrant. The scripture readers were Sylvia Obrigewitsch (Sister of Sion) and Jackie Cherwenuk. Intentions were given by Brady-Ann and Madison Bilan. The gift bearers were Tony Cherwenuk and Curtis Bilan. Cliff Geiger shared words of remembrance.The urn bearers were Elizabeth and Mackenzie Cherwenuk and Alexander and Nathan Mushanski. A private family interment will take place at Riverside Memorial Park Cemetery, Regina.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Yorkton Fire Fighters Burn Fund or to the Kinsmen Telemiracle as gifts of remembrance.
