With great sadness we share the news of Edward Peter Podollan’s passing.  On July 22, 2024, Edward passed unexpectedly as he was walking back out to his tractor to continue discing freshly broken pasture.  Edward loved to farm and his love and respect for the land he worked and the livestock he raised was evident in the organic practices he used on his certified organic farm, Cupar Creek Farm.

Edward was healthy, hadn’t been to a doctor in over twenty years, prescription free.  Ed was a man of character and a man of prayer.  He shared his faith in Jesus not only through the way that he lived but also when talking with people.  Edward believed in Jesus in the truest sense of what it means to believe.  His belief was demonstrated in obedience to the Word of God.  Because Edward had been saved and set free (at twenty-four) in a miraculous way that prevented him from suicide and put his life on an ever upward trajectory, through the redeeming power of the blood of Jesus, Ed loved to share the good news of what Jesus came to do for those who believe.  Edward was and is a child of God: A King’s kid for sure.

One thing is certain, no one makes it out of this life alive.  For those of us still awaiting our time to go, grief and hardship will continue to be part of our reality.  For Edward, however, we can rejoice.  Ed now knows for sure that to be absent from the body is to be present with the Lord, (2 Corinthians 5).  While we use terms like passed away, passed, and died, the truth is, Ed was called Home.

Edward was born on October 20th, 1951, in Yorkton, Saskatchewan. Son of Stella and Peter Podollan. Ed was a much-loved brother to Natalie Zelaney, David Podollan, (his twin brother), Adele Wright, and Vernon Podollan.

Edward went to school in Wroxton, Saskatchewan.  After quitting school at the age of 15, Ed continued to work on the family farm with his Mom and Dad. He worked in Sobe lake and Lynn Lake at the mines. He worked construction on sites around northern Alberta.

When Eddie was 17, he went to Auction School in Mason City Iowa.  His first Auction sale was in 1971 for Walter Deneschuk. Ed went on to auction cattle and farm equipment for many years. He auctioned for Bill Hodgins and owned his own auction company, Podollan Auctions.

Ed worked for his brother Dave in Fort McMurray and Grande Prairie, building hotels and condominiums. He sold farm equipment for John Deere and Gabers and he sold Watkins as well.

In 1988, Edward ‘s purebred Salers bull won Grand Champion at Brandon, MB AgEx and Reserve Grand Champion at Regina, SK at Agribition.

In 1997, Ed and Shirley moved to Alberta to work.  There they started Angels EMS and supplied Emergency Medical Services to Rig Sites in Alberta and Manitoba. Shirley and Ed went on to own and operate residential rental property.

In April of 2023 Edward and Shirley moved back to their farm and began, once again, to farm.

Edward was a mighty, big man with a sincere love for Jesus that was demonstrated daily in the way he lived, treated his wife, his children, his grandchildren, his entire family, his friends, neighbours, and strangers.  Edward was known to strike up a conversation with anyone and often began with “Where are you from originally?”

On June 17th, 1972, Edward married Shirley Shewchuck.  Shirley and Ed were married for 52 years.  Ed and Shirley raised two children, Alexander and Christine.  Alexander has three children: Tyrone, Eli, Shirley.  Ed, was also known as Eddie, Big Ed, and a Prince of a Man.  Ed truly is one of the last of the finest.
