Obituary of Amy Marie Pengelly

With heavy hearts, we announce unexpectedly the passing of our beloved daughter, granddaughter, sister, aunty, niece, and friend Amy Pengelly on July 16, 2024, in Ituna, Saskatchewan. She was 40 years old.

Amy was born in Yorkton, Saskatchewan in September 1983 to Marianne and Shayne.

Amy was a free-spirited soul who was beautiful inside and out with a big personality and a bigger heart. Those who knew Amy knew that she had many quirks about her and she was unique in her own way.  She had a love of everything miniature, vintage pieces, collections of different items over the years and was always grateful for anything she received whether it was new or old - she would find a place for it!

Amy was always adventurous in the workplace jobs that she chose, once hopping on a bus to go work in Thetford Mines, Quebec.

Amy found her joy in small towns or the farm life where she resided with her common-law partner Garry. She loved to help out with farm chores and tend to the animals. She was even able to get close to a bull in order to free the twine wrapped in his horns, she then named him Boris. Amy always had a deep love of animals, especially for her two cats Alley and Veo. Amy loved Ukrainian dancing as a child, playing Barbies with all of the clothes and accessories which led her down her artistic and creative path. She had a passion and love for sewing, crafts, DIY projects by herself or lending a hand, painting, putting together endless pots of plants, gardening, puzzles, her record player and Vinyl LP record collection, music with her bass and acoustic guitar, and she loved a good thunderstorm.

As children, Amy and her sisters spent a lot of time with family in Ituna and had a lot of fond memories. As she grew up, she always felt that Ituna was her base and she felt at home there. Amy would often go back to visit her Uncle Henry as he was still the anchor to those memories.

Amy is survived by Garry and his sister Colleen, her parents Marianne (AndrĂ©), and Shayne (Tammy), grandmothers Betty (Keith) and Vikki, sister Jennifer (Cory), nephews Cael and Nash, and niece Anika, sister Angela (Shaun), niece Danica, Uncle Vladimir (Hilda), cousins Nadia, Michelle (Tom) and family, Lisa (Jeremy) and family, and Diane (John) and family, Uncle John (Sandra), cousins Dianne (David) and family and Richard, Uncle Henry, cousins Michelle (Warren) and family, Dwayne, and David (Brette) and family, Aunty Steph (Kyle), cousins Ryan (Nicole) and family and Kim (Lyle) and family, Aunty Pam (Stu), cousins Clay and Sky (Jason), Aunty Lorna, cousins Harris (A) and family and Trent, Jasmine (Dave) and their children, Brandon (Megan) and family,  Drew (Katy) and family, Travis (Amanda) and family, Anita, Yolaine and her children Levi, Tyra (Cody) and Pat (Brenda) and their children Maia (Joey), Joshua, and Liam . Amy is predeceased by Gido George, Baba Doris, Grandpa Leonard, Grandpa Butch, Grand-maman Bernadette, Grand-papa Maurice, Uncle Billy, and stepbrothers Dustin and Chris.

Amy never wanted to be defined by her addiction and mistakes, she was a beautiful soul who fell into its grip, no matter how many times she tried to get off that path. Amy could be feisty and outspoken yet she would do anything for anyone and could light up the room with her smile and sense of humor, even when she was struggling inside. She loved her family deeply and believed strongly in second chances; maybe because she craved another chance for herself and others who are faced with an addiction. Amy will be dearly missed and her wonderful memories will live on and be held tightly in our hearts.

There will be a private family service held for Amy. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to an animal rescue of your choice. Arrangements have been entrusted to Bailey's Funeral Home and the family is thankful for their professional, kind, and thoughtful service.
