Obituary of Viola "Vi" Protz

Viola Marie Dittrick “VI” was born October 19, 1943 on a 22 acre homestead at 6-21-6W2  1 mile North of Killaly.  She was the 8th and last child of John and Rosina (nee Mann) Dittrick.

 

She graduated May 4, 1962. She went to work at Zig’s gas station.  It was there she met the love of her life Max Protz and they married at St. Mary’s Ukrainian Catholic Church on September 12, 1964.  After a honeymoon in Banff they settled in Kelvington for 23 years and then moved back home to Yorkton. Vi’s last move was to Weber House where she thrived and enjoyed the company of residents and staff alike.

 

Vi was a volunteer extraordinaire for which she received the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee medal. She loved being a volunteer. She was inducted into the 4-H Hall of Fame for being a lifelong member, leader and delegate. Vi was an avid gardener who joined the horticulture society as a member and later judge.  She was a UCWL and parish council member who led the rosary and would say grace. Vi was the Golden Agers treasurer and bingo caller.  She taught Ukrainian language classes and acted in many plays.  Vi was a hospital visitor who knitted many toques for newborns. She always liked to help anyone with anything and never gave up.

 

Left to cherish her memory is Vi’s family- 4 Daughters and spouses, 13 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren.
