Trapper Liepert

Obituary of Trapper Liepert

Trapper (Dave) Liepert passed away the morning of March 21, 2024 at home with his wife by his side. He leaves behind his best friend and partner of 47 years Wendy (MacNutt) Liepert, their children Joseph (Lindsay), Daniel (Janessa), Toni (Carter) Prier and 4 grandsons – Keighan, Emerson, Kelton and Logan.

Dave was born in the Saltcoats hospital on Sept 1, 1957, the youngest child of Fred and Helen (Hudak) Liepert, brother to Ron (Linda) and Judy (Lynn) Toth.

Trapper left home at a young age and spent his early years in road construction in various western provinces running heavy equipment and then decided it was time to get out of that once his youngest child arrived. He was always interested in old things, bought a building, started a business, named it Trappers Trading Post and began buying and restoring antique furniture to resell to like-minded people. Over the years his children and a lot of other young local kids were hired to work with him, and there are a lot that learned some good work ethics. He also enjoyed salvaging old lumber so began a sideline of tearing down old buildings and saving the lumber and other products, cleaning old tin tiles and when the “brown furniture” (antiques) slowed down years later, began recycling the lumber and salvaged product to build his own creations. This was his love and life, and he was so proud of his creations. Health and mental issues over the last few years drained his love of this and most everything. He is at peace. Cremation has taken place. There will be no service as per Trappers wishes.

Loved You Always, Will Miss You Forever.

Thank you to everyone for your beautiful cards, well wishes, food, hugs and donations to the Saltcoats Fire Department in Trappers memory. We appreciate all.

There will be a casual celebration of Trappers life on Sept 1, 2024 at the shop. Please drop by around 2pm and hang out for awhile to share happy times, good memories and great stories.

Love to all.

Wendy Pearl and the kids.

Memorials in memory of Dave may be made to the Saltcoats Volunteer Fire Dept. (Box 150, Saltcoats, SK S0A 3R0) as gifts of remembrance.
