Kane “Kaner” Brian John Procyshen tragically left this world on March 22, 2024, at the age of 18 years.
He leaves to mourn: his parents Lyle and Kristine (Kushneryk) Procyshen; sister Ruby Mary Ann Procyshen; grandparents Ron and Bev (Mehnel) Kushneryk, Tanya and Walter Neiszner, Brian and Dawn Procyshen; and many aunts, uncles, cousins, colleagues, teammates, and friends.
Kane was born July 5, 2005, in Red Deer, Alberta. When he was six months old the family moved from Sylvan Lake, AB, to WIllowbrook, SK, to settle on the farm. Sister Ruby arrived February 26, 2008 – they have been inseparable since.
Kane attended Yorkdale Central School from Kindergarten to eighth grade. It was during these years that Kane played volleyball; archery, and dabbled in basketball – which he later realized wasn’t his calling. Kane then found his love for spring football under Coach Boyda and Coach Effa, he was hooked from then on. Kane was always too heavy to be in fall football. It wasn’t until Grade 8 that Kane then moved up to the YRHS Junior team, where in Grade 9 they took home the Championship under Coach Kyle.
Kane completed his schooling at Yorkton Regional High School, graduating June 29, 2023. Kane played offensive lineman and jumped in for defense when needed for the Raider Gridders. Kane gave it his all every game. Many times he’d be all taped up by Jana-lee, and off he’d go just doing what he knew he had to do for his team and quarterback.
Kane took on coaching for the Grade 5 and 6 boys spring team, sharing all is knowledge with the boys. Kane wanted to give back to the program.
On July 7, 2023, Kane took to the highway to Nanaimo, Vancouver Island, to play in the CJFL with the British Columbia Football Conference. Under the guidance of Sean Murray, his recruiter and soon friend, Kane knew it was where he needed to start and be part of their rebuild team under Andrew Harris and Head Coach Shawn Arabasky with the Vancouver Island Raiders.
Kane lived with teammates Nick, Tristan – and later Alex and Jayden joining them. Michael Hovey was Kane’s billet Dad and gave him the support and care he needed. While Kane played football six days a week, he also completed his Heavy Equipment Operator Certificate. Kane may some lasting friendships with his fellow students and instructors. Kane was right in his element in equipment, he was so proud of mastering the grader.
Kane decided to move back home and have his offseason on the farm, so he started his journey driving home on December 4, 2023. Kane started working at Jobsite Mechanical while also attending offseason training with 3rd and Inches, where he became close with CFL players Josiah St. John and Nicholas Dheilly. Kane also worked training with Tristan Mundt at CrossFit Novus. On March 5, 2023, Kane received news that he made the U20 World Juniors Team Canada, a journey he was ready to take on.
Kane loved being all over the world going on family holidays, but to him there was nothing like being at home with his animals on the farm. As football wasn’t all of Kane’s life, he loved the farm – it’s where his heart always was. He started building his own herd of cattle at the age of 14 and knew one day that this is what he would do once his football path was over. Kane loved seeding, baling, and harvest.
Kane loved his sister Ruby – he was her protector and best friend. They loved cruising in the truck and hanging out with friends. Sledding, hunting, and fishing with his Uncles, Grandpa, Dad, and friends was always something that Kane looked forward to. There was always something to fix or tinker with on his car or truck.
Kane had a huge impact in the short life that he got to live. Our gentle giant, a protector, honest friend, a caring man to all, would give the shirt off his back for someone in need. Kane was always humble and kind.
Love Mama, Pops, and Rubes XOXOXO
