Obituary of Albin Zayshley
The family of Albin Zayshley of Yorkton beloved husband of Elsie Zayshley sadly announce his passing on Wednesday, January 31, 2024. Albin was 81 years of age.
Prayers will be held on Sunday, February 4 at 7:00p.m. from St. Mary's Ukrainian Catholic Church.
The Funeral Liturgy will take place on Monday, February 5 at 10:00a.m. from St. Mary's Ukrainian Catholic Church with Rev. Father Basil Malowany as the Celebrant.
The interment will take place in the Canora Town Cemetery.
Memorials in memory of Albin may be made to the St. Mary's Building Fund (155 Catherine St., Yorkton, SK S3N 0B9) as gifts of remembrance.
It is with heavy heart hearts that we announce the passing of Albin Zayshley age 81 of Yorkton Saskatchewan on Jan 31/2024. After a brief stay at the Yorkton Regional Health Centre, Albin passed away suddenly surrounded by family.
Albin was born on Aug 10, 1942, the third child of Peter and Annie (nee Marushka) of Canora Saskatchewan.
Albin grew up on the family farm north of Canora. He attended Gogol School until grade 8 and graduated 1961 from Canora Composite High School. After graduation he moved to Red Lake, Ontario and obtained a job as a driller in a gold mine. He worked there for almost 2 years before returning to Canora to assist his family when his father became ill. He then obtained employment at Western Grocers Wholesale in Yorkton in 1963. Albin worked his way up to the position of Branch Manager at Western Grocers (Sunspun) and retired after 39 years in 2002.
Albin met the love of his life, Elsie Kostishen on November 15,1963 at a wedding at the Canora Rainbow Hall. Albin and Elsie were married in 1966 at the Ukrainian Catholic Church in Canora. They had 3 sons, Brent, Bart and Jason. Albin was very proud of his sons and their achievements. Albin and Elsie followed their boys as they played hockey all over the province and even to Helsinki, Finland and Leningrad, Russia. They loved to visit and participate in their children’s and grandchildren’s activities. Albin adored his grand children and also enjoyed attending birthdays, graduations and sporting events.
He enjoyed a good cup of coffee, cross country skiing, golfing, relaxing in the warm sunshine and working in his yard, particularly cutting his grass. Albin and Elsie enjoyed travelling to many places including Portugal, Spain, Russia, Finland, Cuba, Hawaii, Mexico. They made many good memories taking trips to BC and Edmonton and the family camping trips at Shuswap Lake. They also enjoyed good times with friends, playing cards, going for coffee and attending dances.
Albin was predeceased by his parents, Peter and Annie Zayshley, his sister Eileen and brother-in-law Ed Hrywkiw, brother Ivan Zayshley, mother and father-in-law Dora and Peter Kostishen, sister-in-law Noreen Dull, brother-in-law Walter Homeniuk. He leaves to mourn his beloved wife Elsie of 57 years, his son Brent (Darla) of Yorkton, son Bart (Kim) of Langley BC, Jason (Patti) of St. Albert, Alberta, grandchildren, Cassidy, Colton, Brynn, Jake (Katie), Jordan, Zak, Gage and Carter, sister-in-law Mary Homeniuk, sister-in-law Pauline Bowen and many nieces and nephews.
