Lola Bryck of Ituna, beloved wife of the late Mike Bryck, sadly announce her passing on January 18, 2024. Lola was born on May 5, 1929 in Winnipeg to Mike Shach and Stephanie (Dolhan).  After a month, mother and daughter journeyed to the family homestead south of Hubbard where Lola would begin her legacy.  The legacy of love for: Family, Friends, reading, writing, church, cooking and baking.

Lola attended Tarnoville and Late Star Schools.  Speaking only Ukrainian Lola was off to a slow start, however, a caring teacher took her “under her wing” and within no time Lola soared, excelling in reading and writing which became her passion throughout her lifetime. She was an avid reader with either a book or newspaper close at hand.

At an early age she wrote letters to family and friends which continued well into her 94th year. Her writing skills always came in handy as she was the Secretary of various community groups for many years: Hubbard Holy Cross Ladies, Hubbard Community Club, Hubbard Golden Age Club, Ituna UCWL and Sunshine Manor. She joined the Hubbard Community Club in the 1940’s and after decades of service was made an honorary member.

Lola was united in marriage to Mike Bryck on November 18,1945 at the Sacred Heart Church in Ituna. They settled on the family farm and had four children: Murray, Allan, Larry and Donna. Lola and Mike worked hard to ensure that their children could pursue their dreams. Lola’s children and grandchildren were very important to her and she made certain they followed the right path in life, emphasizing the importance of work, responsibility and helping others in time of need.

Lola was dedicated to her friends, neighbours and community, as she wouldn’t hesitate to donate baking when it would be needed for funerals or other occasions. After retiring to Ituna in 1988 she became a more active volunteer in the community.  Lola enjoyed entertaining and always had delicious baking on hand. No one would ever leave hungry.  Specialties noted by family members were her perogies, birthday chiffon cakes and everybody’s favourite, her Jam Jam cookies made with her home-made raspberry preserves.

To say Lola had an incredible memory would be an understatement.  She remembered birthdays and anniversaries of not just family but pretty much everybody in the community.  When it came to football, she could tell you the name of every Rider player, their number and details of how he played the game.  Lola often would make bets on who was going to win.  Fortunately for the person that she bet with, it wasn’t for big stakes, because she seldom lost.

Gardening was an important part of her life and living at Sunshine Manor (2011-2019) at the age of 90 she still managed to harvest veggies from her mini garden which her neighbour helped her plant.  She looked forward to the bingo games at Sunshine Manor and always shared her winnings with the grandkids.

Lola was predeceased by brother Simeon (1928), son Allan (1954) Father Mike (1965) Mother Stephanie, (1978), grandson Avin (2004), husband Mike (2012). Lola leaves to cherish her memory, son Murray (Deborah) of Vancouver; son Larry (Gayle) of Hubbard; daughter Donna (Kevin Beach) of Ernfold. granddaughter Cherish Bryck (Andrew Wilczynski) great granddaughters Annie and Lila.
