Nettie Kreway

Obituary of Nettie Kreway

Nettie Kreway peacefully passed away at the Ituna and District Nursing Home.  She was 90 years of age.  Nettie was bon December 20, 1933, at the family farm in the Homefield district to Fred and Anne (Horudko) Stupak.  She was the last surviving sibling in a family of eight.  From oldest to youngest:  Mary (Harry) Mytko, Eva (Steve) Sudyn, Olga (John) Fedyk, Anne (Joe) Fedyk, William (Olga Solonenko) Stupak, Nettie (Nick) Kreway, Peter (Dorothy Okotinsky) Stupak, and John Russel Stupak.

On April 27, 1965, Nettie was united in marriage to Nick Kreway, and they farmed in the Churchill district until 1986, when they moved to Ituna.  Their son Dennis took over the farm and it is still a family farm today.  Nettie worked hard on the farm and always had a large garden.  She loved cooking for her family and worked in the kitchen at the Ituna Pioneer Lodge in the early years of it’s opening.  When Nettie became a resident at the Lodge in September of 2023, she said the food was so good because she taught them how to cook!  Nettie was very talented at sewing, cross stitch, knitting, you name it.  She made many “treasures” for her family and friends.  Nettie was very involved in the Ukrainian Orthodox Church and also spent a lot of time using her talents in the kitchen at the Rose Garden Hall.

She passed on her many talents to five children, twelve grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren:

Bev (Jack) Oliwa, Jorden & Marianna (Veronika), Taylor & Anita (Kinsley & Briley); Terry (Nancy Pawlust) Miller, Kris & Carrie (Benny), Josh & Erica (Paityn & Mason);Roxanne (Ted) Stadnyk, Warren & Catherine (Adrianna & Kira) Melanie & Rich, Corey & John (Morgahn, Aeralyn, Alistr); Dennis Kreway, Lyndsay & Brett (Erin, Maci, Dean, Leah), Vanessa; Doreen (Guy) Carrier, Nicole & Travis, Shawn & Meaghan (Kenzie & Brynn), Lane & Mary. Nettie also leaves to celebrate her life many nieces and nephews, friends and family members.

A life well lived.

The Funeral Service was held on Tuesday, January 23, 2024 from Holy Trinity Ukrainian Orthodox Church, Ituna, Saskatchewan with Rev. Fr. Michael Faryna officiating.
