Delmer Karapeta

Obituary of Delmer Karapeta

KARAPETA - It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Delmer John Karapeta, a longtime resident of Yorkton, Saskatchewan on Thursday, January 11, 2024, at the age of 65 years.

Delmer was born on November 17, 1958, in Theodore, Saskatchewan to John and Mary Karapeta. He was raised on the family farm by Jedburgh, Saskatchewan. Throughout his childhood, Delmer attended many schools starting at Folkstone School near Jedburgh, Jedburgh School, Willowbrook School, Yorkton Composite (Yorkdale), ending at Yorkton Regional High School. From high school, Delmer started roofing, followed by working at Goodyear Tire and found his long-time career at Saskatchewan Brewers.

Delmer’s love of farming ran deep, spending a lot of time with his family helping with seeding and harvest. In his younger years, he could often be found hauling square bales from the field to the barn with his horse and cart, and helping his parents with whatever was needed on the farm. You would have a very hard time getting him out of the combine seat once he was in it. He showed his love for his family through his hard work ethic.

Delmer also had a strong passion for motorized vehicles, particularly fast cars like his 1968 Chevy Nova, and snowmobiles. His first sled was a Rupp which he really enjoyed riding around the farm; his last sled was an 85 Yamaha Phazer, which is still in the family today. Delmer took immense care in everything he owned, it had to be polished! In fact, Delmer and Riley with their good friend Trevor spent quality time rebuilding the Phazer just 3 years ago, Delmer was the first one to start the new rebuilt engine.

In his spare time, Delmer could also be found playing slow-pitch or camping and fishing with his family and friends. He took extreme pride in his yard and always planted a huge garden. After retirement, Delmer spent his time cooking, working or helping with odd jobs, watching his favourite NHL team the Boston Bruins, and chatting with friends over a coffee or beers.

Delmer will always be remembered for his sense of humor, contagious laugh, and unique personality. He lived for the moment, was always there if you needed help, and had a heart of gold!

Delmer was predeceased by his parents John and Mary Karapeta; brother Phillip Karapeta; and beloved son Jordan Karapeta. Delmer leaves many to cherish his memory and celebrate his life. He leaves his two sons, Riley (Sawyere) and Logan. Delmer also leaves his sisters Margaret, Mary-Jane (Brian), Brenda and Sandra. Delmer is also survived by nieces and nephews: Tamara, Jody, Mandy (Adam), Jeffery (Lindsay) and Jerald (Annette). Also, great-nieces and nephews: Keenan, Chace, Rylee, Jaxon, Ryker, Paxton, and Kyden.
