Obituary of Larry Hubred
Lawrence (Larry) Hubred was born on August 1, 1949 in the Melville Hospital to Con and Margaret Hubred. Larry was the eldest of two children.
Larry received his education at Waldron and Melville schools. After receiving his education he worked briefly in surveying until he pursued his passion of farming.
On June 1, 1973 Larry was united in marriage to Maryanne Gelowitz. The couple celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary this past summer; however, they met years earlier as nursery roommates. They were born only 6 days apart.
The couple resided on the farm, SW 13-21-5 W2, in the Grayson district, here they raised their three girls.
Farming was Larry’s life and he passed that passion on to his family. Larry and Maryanne sold their farm in 2020 and moved into Grayson.
In their early married years, Larry drove school bus. Driving a bus didn’t shy him away from “cranking” the tunes. Picking up those happy faces always brought a smile to his. He would get such a kick out of what kids would say. In later years, Larry worked down south, close to Redvers. He enjoyed that very much and still kept in contact with many of his friends from there. They also thought he had great taste in music for an “old guy.” Last, but certainly not least, Larry enjoyed working part time for the RM of Grayson, hauling gravel. No matter what Larry did, he enjoyed the work and the friends he got to meet.
Larry had many great times growing up in Waldron. He enjoyed 4H, curling, and drag racing his car down Main Street. Those good times carried on to Grayson where many hours were spent ski-dooing, curling, dancing, and playing cards. But the activity he loved the most, was visiting with friends and family. Whether it was a large group or small, Larry always made everyone, young or old feel special!
Larry was an active member of the Knights of Columbus. Larry’s interests were few but comprehensive. Hot rod cars, world history, hockey, and seeing his grandkids pursuing their passions.
The most recent addition of a Great Grandson Kalder, was a highlight in Larry’s last years.
Something significant about today’s date December 27, is it’s his mother’s birthday, she would have turned 100 this year; also that it was the date Larry and Maryanne met at Bryce and Brenda Simes’ wedding in 1971.
Larry entered his eternal rest suddenly, but peacefully on Monday December 11, 2023 at home, at the age of 74 years.
Predeceased by his parents, Con and Margaret, Larry leaves to cherish his memory his wife of 50 years, Maryanne and his three daughters Jen, Tricia and Tammy.
