Obituary of Effie Schlechter
The family of Effie Schlecter of Melville, wife of the late Adolph Hahn and Rynold Schlecter sadly announce her passing on November 9, 2023. She was 88 years of age.
A private family graveside service will be held.
EFFIE MARY ANNE SCHLECHTER (NEE GWILLIAM)
With deep sorrow we mourn the passing of Effie Schlechter, who entered her eternal rest peacefully on Nov. 9, 2023 in Melville, SK at the age of 88 years old.
Effie was born on June 6, 1935 to James and Mary Gwilliam (nee Coutts) of the Baring – Grenfell district, SK, and raised on the family farm. She was baptized and confirmed at St. Michael’s and All Angels Anglican Church in Grenfell, and attended Viewland School to grade six. Effie married Adolph Hahn on Nov. 15, 1956 and they became members of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Melville. They were blessed with two daughters and a son and farmed in the Brewer District NE of Melville until, sadly, he passed away in 1978.
After being widowed, Effie worked the Classic Inn’s front desk in Melville, then the Bangor Nursing Home, where she met and then married Rynold Schlechter on Sept. 28, 1991. They worked together on Effie’s home baking business until, sadly, she was widowed a second time in 2013.
Effie was a homemaker excelling in baking, sewing, knitting, crocheting, and gardening. She enjoyed bingo, bowling, dancing, and playing board games, and loved attending softball sports days that ended with listening to old time music on the radio. But her greatest Joy was her grandchildren.
Effie was predeceased by her parents, James and Mary Jane Gwilliam, husbands Adolph Hahn and Rynold Schlechter, son James in infancy, daughter Gail McCuaig (Hahn), sister Fanny Burstyk (Gwilliam), and brothers Ivan, Harry, and Herman Gwilliam.
She leaves to mourn her sister Ethel (Roy) Reiger, Grenfell, SK; daughter Connie Hahn, Calgary, AB; son Terry (Tanya) Hahn, Melville, SK; grandchildren Jessie (Stacey) McCuaig, Kamloops, BC, McKenzie (Kevin) Schwittai (Hahn), Cochrane, AB, Jessica Kimpton, Saskatoon, SK, Georgia Hahn, Melville, SK; great-grandchildren Quinn and Amelia McCuaig, Nolan and Hazel Schwittai; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and godchildren.
