KLYNSTRA, Sidney John - It is with deep sadness and heavy hearts that we announce the passing of a dear husband, father and grandfather. Sid passed away at the Yorkton Regional Health Centre on October 5, 2023 at the age of 76.
Sid was born on July 23, 1947 in Kortezwaag, Netherlands to Peter and Anna Klynstra. They later moved to Drachten where Sid began his education. The family immigrated to Canada in 1960 and settled in Jasper Place, Alberta where Sid completed his grade 12 in 1967. In his later years, he studied Business Administration at the Southern Alberta Institute of Technology in Calgary.
Sid worked several jobs over the years with Zellers, Petro Canada, Leon’s Manufacturing and Home Hardware.
Sid was united in marriage to Deanna Haas in 1970 and together they raised two sons, Shawn (1979) and Kevin (1981). Sadly, Deanna passed in 2002. In 2004, Sid remarried to Sandy Hubenig and in that union Sid was blessed with two grown daughters and their children.
Sid was a proud member of the Royal Canadian Legion for 47 years. He attended many parades and services. He was also involved with air cadets, baseball, hockey, band boosters and speed skating. In his earlier years, he enjoyed model airplanes and cars, trains, stamp collecting and 3-D puzzles.
His greatest joy was having his family, especially the grandchildren, come to visit. He cherished those moments the most.
In June 2023, Sid became a resident of the Yorkton and District Nursing Home where he resided until his passing.
Sid was predeceased by his grandparents in the Netherlands, his parents Peter and Anna, his wife Deanna, father-in-law William Huska, brothers-in-law Art Thompson and Henk Tobak, nephew Peter and daughter-in-law Amanda Anderson.
He leaves to carry on his memory his wife of 19 years, Sandra; son Shawn (Claudia) and children Nina, Dana and Mateo; son Kevin and children Mackenzie and Jordyn; daughters Allison Hubenig and children Zoe and Emma; daughter Andrea Hubenig and children Jessie, Jacqueline and Julie; sisters Lillian Tabak and Alice Thompson; brothers-in-law Larry (Gwen) Haas and Greg (Luann) Haas, Murray (Cathy) Huska and Barry (Julie) Huska; sisters-in-law Lorna (Glen) Turner, Barbara (Dan) Cheveldae, Janice Huska, Teresa (Murray) Fox as well as many nieces and nephews and their families.
As per Sid’s request, there will be no funeral. A private family burial will take place at a later date in Yorkton Memorial Gardens.
Donations may be made to the Yorkton Legion as gifts of remembrance.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Bailey’s Funeral Home, Yorkton.
