We with heavy heart and enduring remembrance mourn the passing of William ”Bill” Albert Cyril Hill on Thursday September 21, 2023 at his age of 90 years. Bills heritage originated in Liverpool, England with the generation of his parents John & Sarah moving to Canada in the early 1900’s. Bill was born in Brandon, Manitoba September 22, 1932 and raised in Inglo, Manitoba along with siblings Ivy, Peggy, Wallace, Bess, Gary & Donny. At the age of 16 he went to work for the CNR, a career of 41 years service, starting as track maintainer along side his father who was Foreman, welding rail thru the summer and in 1964 moved his family to Melville to run the CN payloader in Melville yard and cleaning track. In 1956 he had met a young nurse Joan Tenney who he wed in July of 1960 making their home in Shilo, Manitoba alongside the CN tracks. They began a family, daughter Debora born in 1962 and son Larry in 1964. Bills favourite thing to do was Camping in the trailer enjoying company of family. Bill was a dedicated volunteer of the Melville Ambulance Association for 5 years and also a volunteer Firefighter with the Melville Fire Department for 5 years. He truly enjoyed the friendship and comradery of his fellow workers. His sister in law Jean & Verne (Tenney) Duncalfe of Edmonton and brother in law Merle & Pat Tenney of Lloydminster stayed closest to his heart with many memories thru the years along with their families. In 1991 his eldest grandson Kiefer was born and Maverick in 1993 to Debora and Murray Blazieko. They laughed and learned many things about fixing things in times spent together in popas workshop. His grandson Trace was born in 2004 to Larry and Patsy Hill, Trace enjoyed many long conversations with grandpa over the phone, always talking about their cars. In 2015 Bill let the hand of his beloved Joan go after her battle with cancer. But in 2019 & 2022, Kiefer and Rebecca blessed his life with great grandchildren Adeline & Duncan. They sparked much joy and laughter back into his world. Bill always had a smile, a handshake, a kind word and above all a greater than self all enduring love for his family.
A celebration of Bill & Joan’s life and burial in the Melville cemetery will take place for family next summer. We thank Dr.Vanzyl, Kim Rutzki palliative care, and all the medical and Care workers who delivered gentle care, healing and strength to Bill and his family.
