Elizabeth (Betty) Schmidt was born June 17, 1930, on the home farm at Beaverdale to Wallace and Alice (nee Dunning) Anderson. She was the youngest of four children by nine years.

Betty received her elementary education at Beaver School and completed high school at Yorkton Collegiate Institute. She then continued her education at YCI in the Commercial Class. Betty accepted employment in the office of C. G. Langrill as a stenographer from 1949 to 1951.

On June 16, 1951, Betty married Godfrey Schmidt at St. Andrew’s United Church, Yorkton. Their union was blessed with three sons.

In February 1968, Betty returned to the work force and was employed with the Government of Saskatchewan, Department of Labour, in the Yorkton office, where she remained until ill health forced her retirement in 1986.

Community involvement was important to her. She participated in the Yorkton Ladies’ Curling Club, was on the executive of the Madge Lake Ladies’ Golf Club, is a past counselor of the Ladies’ Auxiliary to the United Commercial Travellers, and also a member of the Yorkton Council U.C.T.

Godfrey predeceased her in 2013 and she remained in their home of 57 years until 2016 when she moved into Yorkton Crossing retirement community. Betty was also predeceased by her father in 1978, her mother in 1985 and her siblings and spouses: Joy and Arnold Evans of Foam Lake; Sam and Emma Anderson of Theodore; Hazel and Jim Sharp of Springside. Godfrey 's parents William and Emilie; siblings and spouses: Reinold and Julia Schmidt of Yorkton; Joe Schmidt of Vancouver; Fred and Jenny Schmidt of Comox; Ed and Phyllis Toronitz of Comox; Ida and Jack Miller of Lemberg; Perle and Don McKee of Vancouver; and Olga Ross of Yorkton.

Betty is survived by her three sons and spouses: Gordon and Lynne; Les and Barb, David and Joy; four granddaughters, one grandson and seven great grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews of whom she was very fond, as well as cousin Murray Anderson and Inez.

It would be remiss not to mention Betty’s love of the cabin at Madge Lake. It has been a huge part of her family’s life since 1958. What started out as a shell of a cabin turned into a cozy cottage that was a haven for rest, relaxation and family. Golf, duplicate bridge, dances, friendships, and the occasional cocktail always made this a special place for Mom.
