The family of Katie Adam of Yorkton, formerly of the Calder District, beloved wife of the late William Adam, sadly announce her passing on September 8, 2023. Katie was 88 years old.

Katie was born in Calder, Saskatchewan on October 4th, 1934. She was the second oldest daughter of eight born to John and Dora (nee: Bewcyk) Horaska. Katie was raised on the family farm in the Calder District and received her education at Jarema School. One of her responsibilities of growing up on the farm and being one of the oldest children was to leave school early to stay home and take care of her siblings. Katie continued her love of reading and learning as she cared for her siblings.

Katie loved to dance. It was at one of the community dances is where she met a handsome young man, William Adam; son of the late Mike and Veronica (nee Rurak) Adam. After the harvest in 1951 they were united in marriage on November 23rd.  Following their marriage, the couple farmed near Yorkton for a short time before moving back to the Calder District in 1954. In 1960 the family moved to the Adam family homestead where they continued to farm and raise their family.

Katie was dedicated to her family and farm. Not only did she keep a well-manicured yard, but she was also a fanatical gardener and grew all sorts of beautiful perennials and plentiful vegetables for canning. Katie worked hard on the farm from hauling grain (with little ones riding along) to tending to the cattle, pigs, and chicken her and William raised.

After her youngest daughter moved away from home Katie worked as a housekeeper at the Kamsack Yorkton and District Nursing home for ten years. Coworkers described her as hard working and compassionate.

Katie took extra care in everything that she did. She was an extraordinary cook and seamstress; her specialties were fried chicken and traditional Ukrainian dishes. She sewed all the bridesmaid’s gowns for two of her daughter’s wedding and a wedding gown for her eldest daughter.  Katie was a supportive mother; never missed a sports game and sewed every Ukrainian Dance outfit for her youngest daughter. She also organized and prepared the food for all three of her daughters’ well-attended weddings.

One of Katie’s passions was playing first base on the Brandon Blue Jays ladies softball team. She was sure to always get on base and displayed great sportsmanship. Local sports days were a family event, playing alongside her two daughters and daughter-in-law and coached by her husband or son-in-law.  Katie also loved to crochet, knit, play cards with neighbours, and attend concerts of her favourite singer Charlie Major.

Katie was predeceased by her husband William Adam; parents John and Dora Horaska; sisters Hazel Moffat, Ruth Nagel, and Mary Mitschke; brothers Peter Horaska, Matt Horaska and George Horaska (in infancy); and sons-in-law; Ken Kindiak and Bernie Miller.

Katie leaves to mourn her passing and to celebrate her life children Colleen Miller (Boris) of Wroxton, Darlene Kindiak of Wroxton, Larry Adam (Shiryel) of Calder, Leyann Terlesky (Dave) of Craven. Grandchildren: Brent Miller (Daena), Blaine Miller (Chera), Clinton Kindiak (Yvonne), Keith Kindiak (Megan), Trent Adam (Sarah), Mandy Zimmer (John), Terra Coulter (Andy), Mason Terlesky (Cheyenne), Logan Terlesky (Lexi), and Kayley Terlesky (Benny). Great-Grandchildren: Ethan Kindiak, Macy Miller, Julian Zimmer, Carson Kindiak, Isaac Zimmer, Jovi Miller, Karter Miller, Kayden Miller, Benjamin Zimmer Liam Adam, Arebelle Adam, Jake Zimmer, Raena Zimmer, Axel Zimmer, Wren Zimmer and Harlyn Coulter. Siblings: Willard Horaska and Verna Schrader (Bill). Brother- in- law: Dave Adams (Eleanor) Auntie: Elsie Kryworuchka. She also leaves to mourn many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

Katie’s greatest achievement was the love and closeness she shared with her family. Katie will be fondly remembered for her soft-spoken manner, kindness, generosity, and willingness to put others first.

Forever in Our Hearts.
