Obituary of Lorraine Kozakewich

With profound sadness we announce the passing of Lorraine Kozakewich at the age of 92.

Lorraine was the eldest of five girls, born on the family farm in the Church Hill District of Saskatchewan. She walked to the country school in all types of weather with her sisters, completing her last year at Sacred Heart Academy in Yorkton. She met Harry in Ituna and a year later they married in 1950, making Ituna their lifelong home.

Lorraine was kind, generous, and was a strong support to her husband in his many endeavors, especially as his answering service.

Church and spirituality were very important to mom. She placed great trust in God for all her needs. During the last few years, she enjoyed daily prayer time by phone with her daughter, Terri. She was a member of the Ukrainian Catholic Women’s League of Canada for many years. She developed a great sense of humour, a few hours before she died while being pushed in her wheelchair, told the hospital staff, “Push me really fast so my hair can blow in the wind.”

Mom always put others first before herself. When discussing moving to a nursing home, mom’s concern was about her homecare workers not having a job.

Her memory will be cherished by her children: Olga “Terri” Scott (Tom Bailey), Angela Slipchuk (Boris), Gerald (Linda), Lawrence (Georgette), and Paula, daughter-in-law Kathy, sixteen grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren, sisters: Natalie Cameron, Sophie (Bill) Senkowski, and Angie Kowal. She was predeceased by husband Gregory “Harry” on August 30, 2008, and son Joseph on July 1, 2023, her parents John and Anastasia “Nettie” Woychesko, sister Elaine Tymiak, and brothers-in-law Jim Cameron, Alex Tymiak, and Walter Kowal.

The family would like to thank Homecare worker’s Susan Antonishyn, Olga Kolody, Gina Marshall, Carol Skorobohach, and other wonderful care workers, nurses, EMT’s, and doctors in Ituna, Melville, and district for their kind attention to her well-being, enabling her to live at home. Thank you to all of mom’s friends, neighbours, and family, especially mom’s niece, Bernie Berezuik, for always watching out for mom, and just being there for her.
