In Loving Memory of Frances Hudy
It is with great sadness that the family of Frances Hudy announce her passing on Tuesday, August 29, 2023, at the age of 102 years. She entered her eternal rest peacefully at her home with her children, Gloria Champagne and Jerry (Leona) Hudy at her side.
Frances (Lysiuk) Hudy was born on March 15, 1921, near White Beech, SK at Range 29, Section 7, Township 36 to Agnes (Witow) and Nick Lysiuk. She was the youngest of eight children. Frances grew up on the family farm in a simpler time where hard work was valued and attendance at the farm church, Church of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary, was of great importance. Her values served her well in life where honesty, respect and loving unconditionally were highly regarded; values that she passed on to her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. It is likely that during her early years on the farm where the seed for the love of gardening was sowed.
On June 13, 1943, she married Frank Hudy, her husband of 75 years, in Arran, SK and subsequently relocated to Melville at 198 Manitoba Street, her home until her passing. Her working career outside the home included Swift’s, Western Produce, desk clerk at the King George Hotel for the Weinstein family for whom she had great respect which was mutually shared. She later joined husband, Frank and son, Jerry in their newly-acquired family business – the turkey farm along with grain and cattle farming.
Frances had many interests and hobbies – cross stitch, sewing, knitting, cooking and baking, reading, but her passion was gardening. Roses and lilies were her favourite flowers.
Family was the center of her universe. She was very proud of Gloria’s nursing career and she was Jerry’s number one fan during his hockey and fastball playing days and his farming ventures. She was so delighted with the births of grandsons, Blair and Neil Champagne and overjoyed with the arrival of great grandchildren, Kenton, Hudson and Alana Champagne.
Frances was predeceased by her parents Agnes and Nick Lysiuk, her four sisters, Kate Kinaschuk, Annie Homenchuk, Mary Chornomaz, and Lena Temreck, her three brothers, Alex Kotyk, Pete Kotyk and Max Kotyk, nephews, Ron Temreck and Bill Chornomaz, niece, Delores Robinson, and her husband, Frank, on April 7, 2018. Left to cherish her memory are her children, Gloria Champagne and Jerry (Leona) Hudy, Grandson, Blair (Carla) Champagne and their children, Kenton, Hudson and Alana, Grandson, Neil (Annie) Champagne.
