Carol Cole

Obituary of Carol Theresa Cole

In Loving Memory of Carol Cole

January 7, 1942 to June 13, 2023 (81 Years Old)

The family of Carol Theresa Cole sadly announces her passing at the Regina General hospital on June 13, 2023, at the the age of 81 years young. Carol was born to Elizabeth (Gulash) and John Abdai of Esterhazy, SK. She was the youngest of eleven children.

Her beauty, loving personality, humour and gift of song, will stay in all of our hearts forever.

Carol was only 6 years old when her father passed and only 8 when her Mother passed. Gratefully, Carol was raised by older siblings and family friends over the course of 10 years. Carol spent much time at the farm, rode horseback to school and loved dolls for Christmas. As a young child she developed a love of Elvis Presley.

At the age of 17, Carol moved to Scarborough to live with her sister, Rose and Bill Mann. This was a very exciting time for Carol as she was welcomed into the family with loving arms and worked at the Scarborough Hospital.

At the age of 21 years old, Carol married John Bernard Cole and was blessed with 3 children; Steve (Alice), Wendy (Glen) and Jennifer (Brennan). Carol worked part time jobs assembling products for “Goodie” so she could stay home with her children. In her 20’s, she learned to play guitar. John and Carol were huge Hockey and Baseball fans, both of which they actively pursued with their son, Steve. They were the best fans ever!

Carol was a devoted mother. She liked to take her children to Beaverton Lake, Uncle Chuck’s chicken farm and many sporting events. In later years, Carol loved to golf, play cards, go for coffee and just talk with her children. She was always there if you needed her.

In 1982, Carol and family moved to Yorkton. She worked at the hospital for 25 years, much of that as a Dietary Aid and often spoke of all of the fun that she had with all of her co-workers (water fights in the kitchen). During this time, Carol developed a love for bowling, shooting pool and golfing. In 1988, their first grandchild Matthew was born. The family enjoyed many dinners together and spent much time in the backyard, playing catch and gardening. Carol and John separated after 29 years of marriage.

In 1993, Carol met Gordon Roberts (a widower) and they enjoyed 30 years together. Throughout the years, they travelled extensively in Canada and United States, including Hawaii, as well as Cuba and the Bahamas. They enjoyed golfing (a sport she became very proficient at, winning as many as 7 tournaments in one year). They also enjoyed dancing, bowling, and time at the lake. In 2012, they purchased a place in Yuma, Az. and spent 8 wonderful winters there until Covid in 2020.

Carol had 4 grandchildren: Matthew Cole (Natasha), Savannah, Natalie and Charlie Smith. To all, she was such a fun grandmother, (nicknamed Gma by Savannah) always making jokes, teaching Matthew to golf, giving a snuggle to watch the baseball game, teaching all to play cards (golf), drawing or even just to sit and talk.

She was also very fond of Gordon’s children: Kendra (Dale Glover) and Kordell (Jackie) Roberts and their sons Colton and Auston. Spending time at the lake, golfing or watching the grandchildren when they were young.

Carol is survived by her sister Eleanor (Ken Leftwich) and brother Albert (Dave Frisbie) and numerous nieces and nephews.

All who knew Carol, know they were loved by her and will keep her memory alive in their hearts always and forever. Rest in Peace our dear mother, grandmother, sister, friend and companion.
