The family of Sonia Sylvia Swerhun, widow of Peter Swerhun, sadly announce her passing on April 2nd ,2023 in Calgary, Alberta. Sonia was 86 years old.

Sonia Swerhun was born in Regina, Saskatchewan to Stephen and Julia Onyshko on February 15, 1937. She was raised in Regina, Saskatchewan and attend St. Michael’s Ukrainian Orthodox Church. She was also a proud Ukrainian dancer.

Sonia met her first husband Neale Moffat on a radio show (she like the sound of his voice). They were married in St. Michael’s Ukrainian Orthodox Church (Sept 24,1960). Soon after, Sonia and Neale moved to Edmonton. Two years later, daughter Linda was born (May 10, 1962) and then daughter Donna (Aug 3, 1963). Sonia and Neale were divorced in 1980. Sonia met Peter Swerhun in 1993, they got married and moved to Calder Sask. They spent many happy years living in Calder. Peter passed away in 2019 and Mom moved to Yorkton Crossings in Yorkton, Sask. After a year she decided that she was too far away from Linda and Donna, so she decided to move to Calgary AB. She moved into Evanston Grand Village where the staff took excellent care of her right until the end. We will be forever grateful for all their kindness.

Sonia Swerhun is predeceased by her husband Peter Swerhun, her parents Stephen and Julia Onyshko and her brothers Zenon and Stephen.  She is survived by her daughter, Linda Garside (Simon), Donna Wachtler (Phil), granddaughter Christine Turgeon (Larry), grandsons James and Douglas Wachtler, and great granddaughter Anabelle Turgeon.

The family wishes to extend their gratitude to everyone who knew and loved our mother dearly.
