Obituary of Catherine Wuschenny

WUSCHENNY - Catherine (Katie) Wuschenny (nee Harasymuk), beloved mother, grandmother and great grandmother, passed away peacefully on Thursday, October 5, 2006 at the Yorkton Regional Health Centre. Catherine was born on July 15, 1918 to parents John and Eva (nee Stekmakowich) Harasymuk in the Fenwood district. She attended Kenningsberg School and as a young woman worked on various farms in the Balcarres and Abernathy areas, then for Dr. and Mrs. George Ferguson in Fort Qu'Appelle and lastly at Fort San. On November 3, 1940, she was united in marriage to John Wuschenny and they took over the family farm in the Homefield district. Katie was a modest woman who always put others before herself. She retired to Yorkton in 1978. In 2003, she became a resident of the Yorkton and District Nursing Home. She was predeceased by her husband, John, in 1978; parents Eva and John; brothers and sisters- in-law Steve (Ann), Alex (Sophie), Nick (Katie), Bill (Marian); sisters and brothers-in-law Nellie Kurmey (John) and Mary Dvernichuk (Mike); brother-in-law John Derkach as well as grandson, Shane Wuschenny. Katie is survived by her children: Robert (Adeline) of Yorkton, Betty (Dwight Thompson) of Brandon, MB and Jerry (Donna) of Windsor, ON; Grandchildren: Azalea (Steve) Parisien, Tricia Wuschenny, Darcy (Tanya) Thompson, Trudy (Chad Zelmery), Rick Wuschenny and Shannon Wuschenny; Great grandchildren: Savanah, Riel and Madison; a sister, Pearl Derkach of Yorkton; numerous nieces, nephews, and her many other relatives and friends. Prayer services were held on Monday evening, October 9, 2006 from Bailey's Funeral Home, Yorkton.The Requiem Divine Liturgy was celebrated on Tuesday morning, October 10, 2006 from Sacred Heart Ukrainian Catholic Church in Ituna with Very Rev. Father Bryan Bayda C.Ss.R as celebrant. Cantor, Ladmer Moskal led in the singing of the responses. The epistle-reader was Azalea Parisien, the crossbearer was Rick Wuschenny. The interment took place in the Sacred Heart Parish Cemetery with Darcy Thompson, Steve Parisien, Neil Derkach, Bill Harasymuk, Rick Wuschenny, and Walter Wuschenny serving as the casketbearers.
