Obituary of Peter Petruka
Mr. Peter Stanley Petruka beloved husband of Pauline of the Ituna Pioneer Lodge; passed away at St. Peter's Hospital, Melville, Sask., on Friday, October 13, 2006 at the age of 94 years. Mr. Peter Stanley Petruka beloved husband of Pauline of the Ituna Pioneer Lodge; passed away at St. Peter's Hospital, Melville, Sask., on Friday, October 13, 2006 at the age of 94 years. Peter was born on June 6, 1912 in the Ituna district of Saskatchewan; a son of John and Mary (nee Kobialko) Petruka. He was raised on the family farm and received his education at Olga School. After his education he continued to live and work on the family farm. On November 15, 1936 Peter was united in marriage to Pauline Uchacz at St. Stanislaus Roman Catholic Church and have celebrated 69 years of marriage. They then aquired their own land 1 ½ miles south of the Petruka homestead. Eventually they aquired the original homestead and farmed it, along with their own. In 1971 Gordon, Peter and Pauline's son joined them in the farming operations. Peter continued to farm until 2005 when he entered the Ituna and District Pioneer Lodge where he has since resided. Peter's life was farming. He loved to tinker in his farm shop; and not only worked his land but also invented and fixed machinery to help in his daily life. So much so, that he impressed John Deere with his accomplishments. Peter was a member of the Saskatchewan Wheat Pool and the Ituna CO - OP Association. He loved his family; especially his grandchildren who were always welcomed visitors. Peter leaves to cherish his memory and to celebrate his life his loving wife Pauline. His children: Gloria (Ed ) Lien of Rimbey, AB., Allan (Ellen) Petruka, Gordon (Pat) Petruka all of Ituna; grandchildren: Cheryl (Gordon) Skain, Cory (Bridie) Lien, John (Bella) Petruka, Yvonne (Lyle) Crowe, Donald (Sharon) Petruka, Christopher Petruka, Andrea Petruka (Chris), Stacey and Jessica Petruka; many great grandchildren and two great great grandchildren. Also, his brother Leo (Doris ) Petruka of Saskatoon, SK; sisters: Annie Pietrucha, Mary Hromyk, Leona (Jack) Leontowich all of Ituna, SK., Polly Harasym of Regina, SK.Peter was predeceased by his parents; grandson Greg Hutchinson; brothers: Bernie, Stanley, John, Jan; sisters: Bertha Burko, Helen Gruszecki, Katie Domasik, Victoria Shull; brothers - in - law: Joe Pietrucha, Mike Hromyk, Orest Harasym, Tony Burko, Peter Gruszecki, Leo Shull and Frank Domasik . Prayer service was held on Monday evening, October 16, 2006 from St. Stanislaus Roman Catholic Church, Ituna, Saskatchewan with Rev. Father J. Pat Murphy presiding. The reader was Pat Petruka with the reflections of Peter's life given by Jessica and Stacey Petruka. The Hymn Selections were: "Sing With All The Saints In Glory" and "Day Is Done". The Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated on Tuesday morning, October 17, 2006 from St. Stanislaus Roman Catholic Church with Rev. Father J. Pat Murphy as Celebrant. Paulette Van Der Helm was the organist leading the parish choir and congregation in the hymns: "Be Not Afraid", "This Day In New Jerusalem", "Remember This O' Lord", "Gift Of Finest Wheat" and "Allleluia, Give Thanks To The Risen Lord". The readers were: Jessica , Stacey Petruka and Yvonne Crowe. Jessica Petruka was the Cross Bearer with Laura, Rebbeca Maroquin and Kayla Renkas serving as Altar Servers.
