Obituary of Pauline Petruka

PETRUKA - Mrs. Pauline Petruka of the Ituna Pioneer Lodge passed away there on Tuesday, April 17, 2006 at the age of 90 years. Pauline was born of July 9, 1916 in Wynyard, Saskatchewan; a daughter of Sam and Mary (nee Kuzyk) Uchacz. Her family moved to Ituna in 1918. She had 3 years of schooling in the Ituna Convent and another 3 in the local Ituna School. On November 15, 1936 Pauline was united in marriage to Peter Petruka at the St. Stanislaus Roman Catholic Church and they had celebrated 69 years of marriage. They farmed together on their own land 1 ½ miles south of the Petruka homestead as well as acquiring the original family homestead as their own. Pauline was a farm wife who kept chickens for butcher and eggs for over 35 years. She loved to bake and cook and made many "rag rugs" in her lifetime that her grandchildren cherish. Her grandchildren loved spending time with their grandma. Pauline moved into St. Ann's Home on June 1, 2005 where she resided until moving into the Ituna Pioneer Lodge on June 1, 2006. Pauline leaves to cherish her memory and to celebrate her life her children: Gloria (Ed ) Lien of Rimbey, AB., Allan (Ellen) Petruka, Gordon (Pat) Petruka all of Ituna; grandchildren: Cheryl (Gordon) Skain, Cory (Bridie) Lien, John (Bella) Petruka, Yvonne (Lyle) Crowe, Donald (Sharon) Petruka, Christopher Petruka (Leanne), Andrea Petruka (Chris), Stacey Petruka (Tyler), and Jessica Petruka; many great grandchildren and two great great grandchildren. Also her brothers: Bill (Rose) Uchacz of Ituna, SK., Benny (Helen) Uchacz of Calgary, AB., Mike (Helen) Uchacz of Burnaby, BC; sisters: Katie Polovick of Saskatoon, SK., Reverend Sister Metraphane of Mundare, AB., Jennie (Ernie) Sali of Kelowna, BC. As well as numerous nieces and nephews and friends. Pauline was predeceased by her loving husband Peter on October 13, 2006, her parents; brothers: John in 2006, Nick in 2007, Peter, Joe; sisters: Mary Sikorski and Helen Czekurlon and a brother - in - law: George Polovick. Prayer Vigil service was held on Sunday evening April 22, 2007 from St. Stanislaus Roma Catholic Church Ituna Saskatchewan with Father J. Pat Murphy officiating. Paulette Van der Helm was the organist accopmanying the congregation in the Hymns: "Sing With All The Saints In Glory", Psalm 25 - "To You O Lord, I Life My Soul" and "Here I Am Lord". Reflections of Pauline's life were given by daughter - in law Pat Petruka. The Funeral Mass was celebrated on Monday morning, April 23, 2007 from St. Stanislaus RC Church with Father J. Pat Murphy as celebrant. Paulette Van der Helm was the organist leading the choir and congregation in the Hymns: "Be Not Afraid", Psalm 23 - "The Lord Is My Shepherd", "Prayer of St. Frances", "Gifts of Finest Wheat" "May Flights of Angels Lead You" and "Like A Shepherd". Thet Altar servers were: Kendall Prayda and MacKenzie Moleski with Jessica Petruka serving as Cross Bearer. The Epistle readers were Jessica and Stacey Petruka with the Yvonne Crowe leading the praying of the Intercessions. The Gift Bearers were Pat and Gordon Petruka.
