Obituary of Matt Berezowski

BEREZOWSKI - Mr. Matt Berezowski, resident of the Yorkton and District Nursing Home, beloved husband of Kay Berezowski of Yorkton, passed away on Saturday, May 5, 2007 at the age of 96 years. Matt Berezowski was born on November 15, 1910 in the Sheho district of Saskatchewan; a son of Mike and Mary (nee Tarnowetzki) Berezowski. Matt was raised on the family farm south of Sheho and received his education in the district. On October 24, 1936 he was united in marriage to Kay Kuprowski at Sheho. The couple farmed and raised their three children, Evelyn, Eugene and Beverly. In 1956 the family moved to make their home in Yorkton. Here Matt worked as a carpenter until his retirement. Five years ago Matt became a resident of the Yorkton and District Nursing Home, where he resided until his passing. Matt was predeceased by his parents, Mike and Mary; brothers George, John, Bill, Pete, Steve and Nick; and sisters Ann Slowski, Mary Woroshelo, Natalie Fedak, Helen Necorak, Jessie Strelasky, Alice Kossey, and Katie Maximuik.; and a son-in-law, Alex Holowaty. He leaves to cherish his memory his loving wife Kay of Yorkton; two daughters: Evelyn Holowaty of Yorkton, and Beverly (Rick) Shatosky of Calgary; a son, Eugene (Pauline) Berezowski of Calgary; Matt was also a proud grandpa to Gail (Perry) Faye, Les (Helen) Berezowski, Kendra (Glenn) Wotton, and Kelly (Brandi) Budd, all of Calgary; and four great grandchildren: Nathan and Blake Wotton, Alexandra Faye and Michaela Berezowski; as well as numerous other relatives and friends. Prayers were held on Wednesday evening, May 9, 2007 from Holy Transfiguration Ukrainian Orthodox Church in Yorkton. The funeral service was held on Thursday, May 10, 2007 from the Holy Transfiguration Church with Rev. Father Mel Slashinsky officiating. Cantor, William Kozey led members of the Parish Choir and the congregation in the singing of the responses. The crossbearer was Ed Berezowski. The interment followed in the Yorkton Memorial Gardens with Walter Fedak, Fred Slowski, Kelly Budd, Rick Shatosky, Perry Faye and Les Berezowski serving as the casketbearers. Christ is Risen!
