Obituary of Edmund Betheul Curtis
CURTIS - Mr. Edmund Betheul Curtis of Yorkton, SK; passed away on Monday December 10, 2007 at the Yorkton Regional Health Centre. He was 72 years of age. Ed was born on September 2, 1935 in the Jedburgh district of Saskatchewan; a son of Frank and Rose (nee Klisko) Curtis. Ed was raised on the family farm and attended the local school in Jedburgh. As a young man he found employment on the pipelines , drove taxi and worked for Atlas Concrete driving a cement truck. On September 10, 1966 Ed was united in marriage to Rose Ann Van Parys at St. Andrew's United Church. Ed then found employment with the Saskatchewan Department of Highways and worked for them until 1993 when he suffered a stroke and was no longer able to work, forcing him to retire. In 1973 Ed and Rose made their home on the Van Parys homestead in the Collacott subdivision. After Rose passed away Ed continued to reside there until his passing .Ed enjoyed life. He loved to go fishing with friends and family and many have stories about these times. He also loved to hunt and just being in the outdoors. As well, he was well aquainted working with wood and tools, such as the lathe and router. His favourite reading material were westerns and enjoyed anything involving John Wayne. Ed was predeceased by his mother Rose in 1982, father Frank in 1992, his wife Rose Ann in August 2007, a brother Barry and sister Myrna in childhood Edmund leaves to cherish his memory and to celebrate his life Two sons: Brian (Cheryl) Curtis, Tim Curtis all of Brooks, AB.; two daughters: Kathy (Nick) Staton of Victoria, BC., Laura Curtis ( Tim Cherry) of Yorkton, SK.; Eight grandchildren: Kenneth and Daniel Wright, Crystal and Brianna Curtis, Ethan Demontigny - Curtis, Tammy, Shelby and Kayden Curtis; three brothers: Al (Judy) of Grand Prairie, AB, Bob (Darlene) of Medicine Hat, AB., Dave of Lloydminster, SK; sisters: Margaret Macrae of Grand Prairie, AB.,Lorraine (Harold) Gurski of Golden, BC along with numerous nieces, nephews and friends. A service of comfort was held on Thursday evening, December 13, 2007 from the Chapel of Bailey's Funeral Home, Yorkton, SK. The funeral service was held on Friday afternoon, December 14, 2007 from the Chapel of Bailey's Funeral Home with Reverend Doug Craig of St. Andrew's United Church officiating. The Hymn selections were: "The Last Mile Of The Way" and "He'll Understand And Say Well Done". As well ,Ed's favourite song by Gene Autry, "Red River Valley" was played. Ed's sons: Tim and Brian Curtis along with Ed's sister Lorraine and husband Harold gave the reflections of his life. The interment followed in the Yorkton City Cemetery with longtime friends: John and Eldeen Boehmer serving as Urn Bearers. cremation and funeral arrangements were by Bailey's Funeral Home Yorkton God looked around his garden He found an empty space. He then looked down upon this earth And saw his tired face. He put His arms around him And lifted him to rest. God's garden must be beautiful For He only takes the best. He knew that he was suffering He knew he was in pain. He knew that he would never get well Upon this earth again. He saw the road was rough And the hills hard to climb. So He closed his weary eyelids And whispered, "Peace be thine." It broke our hearts to lose him But he did not go alone. For part of us went with him The day God called him home.
