Obituary of Richard Spokes
SPOKES - Richard Alfred Spokes passed away Monday, June 2nd, 2008 at the Yorkton Regional Health Centre with his family at his side. Richard, "Rick", was born November 29th, 1947, the son of James and Nancy Spokes in Yorkton, Sk. Rick grew up on a farm in the Saltcoats area. He attended his early years of school at Crescent School before attending Melville High School. Upon graduation he attended school for TV and Radio in Moose Jaw, Sk. Rick then began working for CKOS TV station in Yorkton as a switcher in 1968. He later moved on to a position in advertising. In 1970, Rick married Sylvia Markham and they had two children together. Chad Spokes was born in February of 1977 and Marcelline, or "Sammy" as Rick liked to call her, was born in September of 1979. Some years later Rick met his current wife Eva Lafontaine along with her three children Shane, Kirk and Jay. Through their time together Rick had many occupations including driving truck for Loomis and working on the farm for Dean and Betty Russell. Throughout his life Rick enjoyed many outdoor activities. He loved camping, hunting, gardening and waterskiing. One of his favourite pastimes though was fishing. Rick and Eva spent many of their summer hours out on the lake fishing with family and friends. In the winter, when he wasn't ice fishing, Rick loved to play cards with friends and neighbours, most especially cribbage. Rick loved to be around people and was always the first person to have a joke or a story to tell. Rick was predeceased by his father James Spokes, his mother Nancy Spokes (nee Taylor), as well as a brother and a sister, Kenneth and Sheila. He is survived by his wife Eva Lafontaine; his son Chad (Melanie) and their children Alexis and Brynn; his daughter Marcelline; Shane (Melissa) and their children Irelynd and Zander; Kirk (Tenille) and their children Elijah and Nevaeh; Jay (Kim). As well as his brothers Dave (Val), Gord (Sharon), Eva's mother Lillian Lafontaine, nieces, nephews and extended family. He will be greatly missed by all his family and friends. Don't think of him as gone away his journey's just begun; life holds so many facets this earth is only one. Just think of him as resting from sorrows and the tears in a place of warmth and comfort where there are no days and years Think how he must be wishing that we could know, today how nothing but our sadness can really pass away And think of him as living in the hearts of those he touched…. for nothing loved is ever lost ELLEN BRENNEMAN Service Information
