SHUPARSKY - Alexander Shuparsky passed away peacefully at the Yorkton Regional Health Centre on October 31st, 2008 after a brave fight with cancer. He had recently celebrated his 80th birthday on July 29th with his family. Alec was born on the family farm in the Wroxton district on July 29th, 1928. His birth certificate recorded the date as July 30th, 1928 but he always reminded his family that his actual birthday was on the 29th. Alec grew up on the family farm and attended Chaucer School. He married Mary Danelko and they had six children. Eventually the family moved to Yorkton. Alec had various jobs but always had health problems. Surviving four heart attacks in his lifetime, he had a very strong heart. Being a farm boy at heart, he loved to plant his garden in the spring. He took pride in showing off his "green thumb" to whom ever came to visit. He had the biggest, sweetest corn and a large harvest of vegetables every fall. He also liked to cook, which he did alot of. "No one can make borsht like me!" he would say. If you ever came over at suppertime, you knew he was right. He slowed his pace alot in his last few years and was living in an apartment. He still cooked up a storm for as long as he could even with his failing health. He also enjoyed coffee time at the local coffee shops with his family and friends. We hope there's a coffee shop in heaven, and we know he'll be there every day. Alec was predeceased by his parents, Alexander and Helen, his brothers; Bill and John; sisters, Rose and Mary and an infant daughter Darlene Faye. He leaves to mourn his passing, his six children, their mother, Mary and five grandchildren: son, Donald; daughter, Cathy (Ernest) and their children Jacquie and Janis; daughter, Donna (Leonard) and their children, Tyler and Brandon; son, David and his son David Jr.; daughter, Dolores (Gordon) ; and son, Dennis; two sisters, Doris Karchut of Stoney Creek, ON and Bella Slota of Winnipeg; one brother, Nick Shuparsky of Winnipeg; his friend Sylvia, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. A Service of Comfort was held on Monday November 4, 2008 from the Yorkton Memorial Gardens Family Centre. Funeral Services were on Tuesday, November 4th, 2008 at 11:00 am from the Yorkton Memorial Gardens Family Centre with Rev. Doug Craig of St. Andrew's United Church officiating. The organist, Amanda Buhler led the congregation in the singing of the hymns 'Amazing Grace', 'Jesus Loves Me' and 'In the Sweet By and By'. Interment followed in the family plot in the Garden of St. Matthew in the Yorkton Memorial Gardens with Alec's six children, Donald, Cathy, Donna, Dolores, David and Dennis serving as casket bearers. Arrangements were entrusted to Bailey's Funeral Home. Service Information Tuesday, November 4th, 2008 11:00am, Yorkton Memorial Gardens Family Centre Interment Details Yorkton Memorial Gardens
