Obituary of Victoria Kostichuk

KOSTICHUK - Following a short hospitalization, Victoria passed away on Tuesday, November 11, 2008 at the Yorkton Regional Health Centre. She was 85 years of age. Victoria Kostichuk was born on May 24, 1923 in the Mamornitz district of Saskatchewan. She was raised on the family farm, received her education in a country school and as a young woman worked for farmers in the Sheho area. On October 20, 1939 she was united in marriage to Peter Kostichuk. They built a home in Insinger and lived there most of their lives. They had two sons: Alvin and James. In her younger days, Victoria helped many seniors. She would go to doctor's appointments with them, and help them house clean. Victoria loved to cook and bake, and did a lot of needle-work. She loved it when her grandchildren came to visit. In 1993, Peter passed away, and shortly after she moved to Yorkton. In 2001, due to failing health, Victoria moved to Green Acres Lodge in Stockholm. She lived there until 2006, when she became a resident of the Yorkton and District Nursing Home, where she had since resided. Predeceased by her parents; sisters: Mary Hubelit and Verna Jacobson; and brothers: George & John. She leaves to mourn her passing and to celebrate her life, two sons: Alvin (Lindsay) of Mississauga, ON; and James (Loreen) of Yorkton; three grandchildren: David (Jodie) and Vicki, all in Ontario; and Lisa in Yorkton; two great grandchildren: Madigan and Makenna in Ontario. Also two sisters: Katie Fink of Yorkton, and Olga Kowalyk of Theodore; and brothers Bill in Theodore, Mike in Calgary and Nick in Ontario; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and her many other relatives and friends. The funeral service was held on Tuesday, November 18, 2008 from the Yorkton Memorial Gardens Family Centre. Very Rev. Father Mel Slashinsky of Holy Transfiguration Ukrainian Orthodox Church officiated. Cantor, William Kozey, assisted by members of the Parish Choir led in the singing of the responses. The interment took place at Hudema Cemetery, Insinger district with Alvin and James Kostichuk, Maurice Kostichuk, and Albert Pobereznek serving as the casketbearers.
