Obituary of Dmetro Pidhorodetsky

PIDHORODETSKY - Matt Pidhorodetsky, resident of the Ituna Pioneer Health Care Centre passed away on Wednesday, March 4, 2009 at the Yorkton Regional Health Centre. He was 85 years and 16 days of age. Dmetro (Matt) Pidhorodetsky was born on February 16, 1924 on the family farm in the Goodeve district of Saskatchewan; a son of Peter and Mary (Chychrum) Pidhorodetsky. He was raised on the family farm and attended the Bernadine School up until Grade six. As a young man, Matt helped on the home farm and also worked at the Goodeve Hotel. In 1964 Matt moved into Ituna to live but continued to farm and also worked at the Ituna Hotel bar for many years. Following his retirement he remained in Ituna and at the time of his passing was a resident of the Ituna Pioneer Lodge. Matt will be remembered as a kind and caring person. In his younger years he enjoyed fishing, curling, and socializing at the local restaurants. He enjoyed taking a car full of his lady friends to bingos in the area. He was a member of Sacred Heart Parish in Ituna. Matt was predeceased by his parents; by his brother Paul, and by sisters Anne Solonenko (and Steve) and Rose Wasylowich (and Alex), and by his brother-in-law, Steve Antony. He leaves to cherish his memory, his sister Aurillia Antony of Calder and several nieces and nephews. Prayers were held on Sunday evening, march 8, 2009 from the Chapel of Bailey's Funeral Home in Yorkton with Very Rev. Fr. Methodius Kushko C.Ss.R. officiating. The Requiem Divine Liturgy was celebrated on Monday, March 9, 2009 from Sacred Heart Ukrainian Catholic Church in Ituna with Very Rev. Fr. Boris Kyba as the Celebrant. Cantors Wayne Boczulak, Heidi Spilchak and Ladmer Moskal led in the singing of the responses. The crossbearer was Thomas Antony, and Tammy Antony was the Epistle reader. The interment took place in the Sacred Heart Parish Cemetery with Wayne and Edwin Antony, Dennis, Courtney and Devin Solonenko and David Peeace serving as the casketbearers.
