Obituary of Helen Wlaz
Mrs. Helen Walz of St. Paul Lutheran Home; formerly of Ituna and Carrot River beloved wife of the late Walter Woytas and Anthony Wlaz passed away on Tuesday, March 24, 2009 at St. Peter's Hospital Melville, Sk. She was 79 years of age. Helen was born on August 15, 1929 in the Churchhill district north of Ituna; a daughter of Nick and Helen (nee Homeniuk) Doroshenko. Helen was raised on the family farm and attended Churchill Country School. In 1947 she met Walter Woytas and they were united in marriage on June 20, 1948. For two years they resided and worked on Walter's dad's farm until they purchased their own land in the Hubbard district in 1950. In 1978 Walter died. Their son Wayne then took over the farming operations. Helen lived with Wayne until she met Tony Wlaz. They were married in September 1979. At this time Helen moved to Tony's farm at Carrot River; farming side by side retiring in 1990 and making Nipawin their home. In 1994 Tony died. Helen continued to live in Nipawin for a number of years eventually purchasing a home in Ituna. In 2004 Helen became a resident of St. Paul Lutheran Home Melville. During her life Helen enjoyed gardening, sewing, crocheting, quilting and knitting and many people were the recipients of her handi - work. As well Walter and Helen fostered children in the 70's: Donald, Kenny and Gloria Courtney, VanDale Smith as well as Joanne and Linda Bodnar Helen leaves to cherish her memory and to celebrate her life her daughter Vi ( Roman) Yachiw of Yorkton, SK; son Wayne Woytas of Ituna; grandchildren: Valerie (Alex) Mazzini of Regina, SK., Aaron Yachiw of Saskatoon, SK., Richard Yachiw of Regina, SK, Kaylan Woytas of Ituna, SK., Sarah Woytas of Saskatoon, SK; a great granddaughter Makayla Mazzini; a brother Larry Doroshenko of Yorkton, SK., and sisters - in - law; Lena Doroshenko of Lethbridge AB and Wanda Kushniruk of Camrose AB. Helen wsa predeceased by her husbands: Walter Woytas and Anthony Wlaz; sister Emily in infancy and brothers John, Mike, Eugene and Nestor. A Prayer Vigil service was held on Friday evening, March 27, 2009 from St. Stanislaus Roman Catholic Church, Ituna, SK. The Hymns for the service were: "I Know That My Redeemer Lives", and "Day Is Done". The Funeral Mass was held on Saturday morning, March 28, 2009 from St. Stanislaus Roman Catholic Church with Reverend Father J. Pat Murphy as Celebrant. Paulette Van der Helm was the organist leading the congregation and members of the Parish choir in the Hymns: "Be Not Afraid", "Amazing Grace", "Bread Of Life", "May Flights Of Angels Lead You", and "How Great Thou Art". The Scripture readers/intercessions, and gift Bearers were Valerie and Alex Mazinni. The Cross Bearer was Vern Bohach with Kendall Prayda and Laura Marroquin serving as Altar Servers. The interment followed in the Ituna Roman Catholic Cemetery with Richard, Aaron Yachiw, Sarah, Kaylan Woytas, Valerie, Alex Mazzini serving as Casket Bearers. At the memorial luncheon reflections of Helen's life were given by Aaron Yachiw. services directed by Bailey's Funeral Home Ituna and Yorkton A Tribute to Mom You were always there when we needed you, No task too great, no task too small, With a loving heart & helping hand, For us you did them all. Thanks for the years you gave us, And for the time we all shared, We only pray that when you left us, You knew how much we loved and cared. God saw you getting tired, When a cure was not to be, He put His arms around you, And said, "Come On To Me". You didn't deserve what you went through, So God gave you a rest, His garden must be beautiful, For He only takes the best. Rest in peace. Service Information
