Obituary of Donna Lynne McAlpine

The family of Donna McAlpine of the Yorkton District Nursing Home, sadly announce her passing on Monday, January 31, 2022. She was 60 years of age. Donna was born in Regina on Sept.21st 1961, and adopted as an infant by Laurie & Elsie McAlpine (nee: Bridgeo) of Dubuc, SK. Laurie passed away in 1972 when Donna was only 11 years old, and her mom married Paul Lipinski in 1973. Paul was a wonderful man that helped Elsie raise her daughter. They farmed in the district until April of 1977 when they retired to Yorkton. Donna had a brother, Lanny, who was 5 ½ years older than her, and was also adopted. Lanny died in a car accident in June 1977 when he was 21 years old. In July 1994 Donna gave birth to a beautiful baby girl whom she named Crystal. Grandma Elsie and Grandpa Paul were delighted to help her take care of this sweet child. Crystal was their pride and joy! Elsie passed away in June 2000, and Paul passed away in May 2004. Donna & Crystal were left in the care of Donna’s childhood friend, Carol Dawson, who was Crystal’s God Mother. Donna was a client at Yale Harbour in Yorkton as she required a Supportive Living Worker to assist her with daily living and caring for Crystal. Donna was a fun-loving person who loved to bowl, and play games such as Uno, Skip-Bo, Old Maid & Fish with her daughter and friends. She worked at Sask. Abilities, and washed dishes at Melrose Place in Yorkton for a number of years, but what she enjoyed most was spending time with her daughter. Donna met Larry Kowbel around 2008, and they were together until her passing. When Donna was unable to meet Crystal’s needs any more, Crystal lived with Tania & Trinity Sulatyski in Yorkton for a couple years before moving to Saskatoon in 2011 to be with her Guardian, Carol Dawson. Crystal is very happy and has so many friends in Saskatoon. She lives with a wonderful lady who has a Private Service Home for people with special needs. She visited her Mom & Larry on birthdays, and many annual holidays. Donna always looked forward to those visits. Donna was diagnosed with stage-4 cancer in August 2021 and passed away at the Yorkton Nursing Home on January 31st 2022. She will always be fondly remembered, and held in the hearts of all those who loved her. A small private funeral service and luncheon will be held in Yorkton for family and close friends.
