Obituary of Terry Kozun

KOZUN - Terry Kozun, beloved husband of Olga of the Churchill district, passed away suddenly on Saturday, May 23, 2009. He was 79 years of age. Terry (Tarace) George Kozun was born on March 10, 1930 to Donia & Maxim Kozun of the Churchill district. He attended the Churchill School where he completed his grade 12. He then enrolled with the National Technical Trade School for mechanics and welding. He obtained his diploma through a two-year correspondence course. He farmed with his dad and his brother Paul. On June 9th of 1957 Terry was united in marriage to Olga Krywulak. They were blessed with four children: Patricia, Bernadette, Henriette and Danny. Terry served as a councillor for the RM of Bon Accord for 10 years. Being community minded he also served on the Ituna Arena Board, the Saskatchewan Wheat Pool Board, the Recreation Board and the Ituna Park Board. Recently he spent much time on the Bingo Committee in Yorkton raising money to upkeep our Churchill community. Gido loved spending time with his family. He loved sports, which led him to manage Danny's hockey team. Gido also had the opportunity to have Danny play in a band with him. The preservation of our Ukrainian Heritage & Culture was apparent so it was no surprise that he never missed a Ukrainian Dance Competition. Our Ukrainian Christmas's will never be the same without him and he will be truly missed. Predeceased by his parents; brothers Tony, Pete, Nick, William, Paul, Mike and John; sisters Mary Gamarcy, Katie Hetter, Sophie Naharney and Nellie Borgula; a son-in-law Lyle Howat and a grandson Devin Howat.; and his in-laws, John and Katie Krywulak. He leaves to mourn his passing and to cherish his memory: his wife of 52 years, Olga; daughters Pat (Bill) Popik of Yorkton & Lisa, Kristine & Ryan; Bernadette(Kevin) Karkut of Ituna & Melissa, Amanda, Michelle and Samantha; Henriette Howat of Regina & Nicole; and son Danny (Leanne) Kozun of Ituna & Sarah, Jessica, Stephanie & Michaela. Also sisters Hazel (John) Krywulak of Ituna, Nellie Bradley of Regina, Dora Skrypec of Port Coquitlam BC, and Ann Hluchaniuk of Saskatoon. Prayer services were held on Wednesday evening, May 27, 2009 from Sacred Heart Ukrainian Catholic Church in Ituna. The Requiem Divine Liturgy was celebrated on Thursday, May 28, 2009 from St. Nicholas Ukrainian Catholic Church, Churchill district with Very Rev. Father Boris Kyba C.Ss.R as Celebrant. Cantors, Wayne Boczulak, Ladmer Moskal and Heidi Spilchuk led in the singing of the responses. Larry Tymiak was the Sacristan. Lisa Popik and Father Andrew Piasta were the Epistle-readers. Ryan Popik was the crossbearer and all Terry's granddaughters formed the honor guard. The interment took place in the Parish Cemetery with Kevin Karkut, Bill Popik, Mervin Krywulak, Gerry Smysnuik, Larry Stecyk and Michael Kozun serving as the casketbearers.
