Obituary of Peter Sawatsky

Peter David Sawatsky, was born December 8th, 1932 on the farm by Hague, Saskatchewan to Abraham & Susan Sawatsky. In years to come, he had to move in with a foster mother, Helen Janzen with his sister Elma. Later to find out he had more brothers and sisters. Peter had learnt to be a hard worker after dropping out of school at Grade 3, to help provide for his family by working on many farms. Years later, he went into construction, working in Regina and Saskatoon. On May 27th, 1978 Peter married the beautiful young Ingrid Lund. They were blessed with three beautiful children, David, Penny & Trevor. All three children were his pride & joy. They have grown to make many happy memories with their father, either trying to beat him at a game of cards or having him as a fan in the stands cheering them on. They all will dearly miss him. Peter enjoyed his sports and hobbies, his most favourite hobby was going out fishing. He would try to catch the big one, or at least bigger than his children caught. He was a proud fan of the Montreal Canadians & Saskatchewan Roughriders. He would make people laugh without even trying. He had many 'interesting' stories to tell about his adventurous life. On March 17th,2008, Peter had become a proud grandpa to Austin Peter Sawatsky, son of Trevor & Jara. He enjoyed spending time playing with Austin. He would try to spoil him as much as he could. Peter passed away peacefully at 11pm on August 13th ,2009 at the Galloway Health Centre in Oxbow, SK with his family at his side after fighting a tough battle against cancer. Predeceased by his father Abe and mother Susan Sawatsky, foster mother Helen Janzen, sister Elma Boyko and two brothers Johnny & Cornelius Weibe; Peter will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 31 years, Ingrid, their children David, Penny & Trevor (Jara), his grandson Austin; five sisters, Susan (Dave) Funk, Mary (Paul) Bueckert, Betty (Wallace) Duhaime, Anne McMillan and Lena Brooks; one brother Cornelius (Kathy) Sawatsky; many nieces & nephews and long time family friends, Ken & Sherry Washek and their girls.
